download the correct codec and install it

the problem is either some retard encoded the file with xvid and fucked up the header or your hardware acceleration in WMV may be borked. The solution to the header problem would be to grab a 4cc header editor and change it to divxthe solution to the hardware acceleration problem would be to go to tools->options->performance in WMPlayerFool around with the video acceleration settings. Sliding it to none, hitting apply, slide it back to full, hit apply may fix it.if you have an ATI card you might also check your ATI driver settings to make sure WMV hardware acceleration is disabled.

Pay for your porn and you won't have to worry about it.

it will play most things downloaded from limewire but some say "codec doesn't support file type". I'm trying the tools thing now as far as the corret codec i don't know what that would be. I'm not much of a tech person though so not sure about what a 4cc header editor is. I mean my laptop is maybe 5 months old. Toshiba SateliteM65-S9063 wide screen. I got all the upgrades i could with it and WMPlayer worked fine b4 and then just quit working. Thanks for the help and tollerance with a dumb shit who doesn't know this stuff.

Charybdisjim, funny guy...got the g/f for all that. but hey, how's ur "carpel tunnels"?

4cc changerhttp://www.inmatrix.com/download/avic100.zipload the file with that utlity and it should tell you what the current headers are.

^^ Heh, don't get offended, porn IS the most downloaded kind of video file. And even though I can spell it better than you, I don't have carpal tunnel syndrome. But seriously, you don't need to get defensive whenever someone points out how much porn you most likely spank it to. It's ok. It doesn't make you a bad person. Well I mean, you're going to hell, but we won't judge.

hahaha-not defensive just fuckin around

Hey, I hear some people actually do it. Thank god for those that do though right? Someone's gotta feed those girls.

So what portion of online video files do you get this with? I know you said limewire mostly works, but what about if you go to apple.com/trailers and try to view trailers there do they work? How about video from cnn.com? Is it just a particular file or couple files? If so then the header problem seems more likely. If cnn and apple.com videos both produce problems, then it's more likely a video driver or operating system issue. If it's a windows or windows media player related problem, the simplest and surest (but definately painful) way to deal with it is to do a fresh OS install. If it's a driver issue, you can just download the latest drivers for your particular chipset (Ati something or other right?)[Edited on April 26, 2006 at 5:56 PM. Reason : ]

^^^files off of say ebaumsworld or cnn.com do not play, neither do trailers for say a movie like off trianglemovies.com don't work. if it is an independantly downloaded p2p file it will wrk but not off a site
4/26/2006 6:24:52 PM
^^^also, i had my screen repaired about a month ago and had to reinstall everything, so i don't think it's that...

Ebaums world and cnn.com both use windows media player. Try going to apple.com/trailers and viewing a quicktime trailer. If that works than it's windows media player or your browser that's probably causing the issue. Maybe you downloaded a bad/fake/corrupt codec or maybe windows media player just shit itself. If you have real player installed, try uninstalling that and see if it helps. Real player has a tendency to fuck stuff up. Also, check to see if you can download the update to windows media player 10 off of windows update (pretty sure it's still an optional update, so you'd have to do it manually.) That may clear things up. Another thing to try is switching browsers. If you're using Firefox, try IE and viceversa. If the same problem happens in both browsers and quicktime streaming media works fine (assuming you've installed itunes/quicktime) then you've pinned it down on windows media player's browser integration being fucked up.It is still possible that your video card drivers have become corrupt also, even if you freshly reinstalled everything. You may also wish to give replacing the drivers a shot just for the hell of it too.[Edited on April 26, 2006 at 8:38 PM. Reason : ]

it will play quicktime trailers and video...
4/27/2006 12:04:00 PM
Alright, then it's most likely a corrupted codec for windows media player or something messed up it's browser integration. You said you can play downloaded movies, in windows media player right? Try downloading the update to windows media player 10 off windows update. hopefully that clears it up. if not, then I'm not really sure what you could do meaningfully other than try to install divx and see if that fixes it either...

so i downloaded v.10, no change...i tried downloading two of the codecs off of the mplayer site and still no change. also, cnnot play "avi" files from limewire only mpeg and mpg, does that have anything to do with it. Would it be wise to save all of my files to the external hd ad completly remove WMPlayer from my system, go online and download everything from scratch? or rereun all of my OS system discs? if i did one of the two would it reinstall the codecs, drivers, etc....thanks again people, sorry to be a pain in the dick[Edited on April 27, 2006 at 1:33 PM.
