i think it's dumb name for an apartment complex, but youd probably have to live in san diego to know why

Be wary of any apartments with University, College, Student, or Wolf in their name… & beware of the Pries (sp) company. Other than that check out sites like aptbook.com or http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/NC.html

anything really close to campus is going to risk being loud and catering to students, which is good in some ways, but some places know how to take advantage of students or treat them badly b/c they aren’t real adults

I lived at sumter square for 2 years (a kind of woodsy area between a shopping center on western with a grocery store, gym, & a few places to eat & crossroads shopping center) and really liked it. Living at a place that’s mostly families, a few grad students, and a significant student minority (since it does cater to students somewhat) created a very nice neighborhood atmosphere. I'm moving into a very similar place in chapel hill next month.

The mission valley area seems a little constructiony, crowded, & run down sometimes. But I don’t know much about the apartments there. Proximity seems like its greatest virtue.
