Has anyone applied to Vet. school on the past few years? I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on what the admissions board is looking for (i.e. who would be best to write my letter of recommendation besides two doctors? or what would be more beneficial to write about in my personal statement?) Any help from those who have applied or plan to apply this summer will be appreciated.

I applied this past year to Vet. School at NCSU and four others. The admissions board for all the schools I applied to seemed to have different qualifications. When I went into my interviews, each one was different and the questions ranged from broad to very specific about my application. I learned when I visited other schools, that I was one of the youngest to apply so be prepared for questions concerning if you are sure this is the field you want to be in. I had three different vets. write my letters of recommendation (one small animal, one large animal, and one research vet.). If you have need another recommendation, maybe ask an advisor, professor that knows you, or an employer. For your personal statement talk about why you chose the career path. I talked about how I got interested into the field and what I would like to go into. I also talked about work experience and many other activities I have been involved with while in undergrad. at State.

I agree with swmr4life. It really depends on the school, you can look at their application information to try to get a better feel for what they are looking for. The best thing I think you can probably do is try to highlight whatever information you feel might set you apart from a lot of the applicants. If you want to pm me, I can tell you my experiences with the schools I applied to/visited. what schools are you looking at? good luck!
