honestly... i'd rather have another "lame sci-fi shootemup flick" than another one that just feels like a 2 hour episode you paid to see...
4/21/2006 11:16:47 AM
They should make one like Star Trek IV.
4/21/2006 11:36:09 AM
bah, they need something original and goodits easy! [Edited on April 21, 2006 at 11:59 AM. Reason : sds]
4/21/2006 11:59:11 AM
well if it's odd numbered it's bound to suck.
4/21/2006 12:13:46 PM
I'm going to have to jump on a band wagon that I saw on stardestroyer.net and say that Star Trek needs to be put away for at least a decade or two. As in, nobody is allowed to make a movie or another series that centers around Trek. The franchise has been milked to the point where dust is coming out of the teet, and it needs a long long long break. Even if nothing original will ever be made again, Trek needs to sit out long enough to get out of the minds of the viewers and out of pop culture altogether.
4/21/2006 12:56:08 PM
The problem is that its been milked by bad fucking writers.voyager and enterprise sucked dick b/c the writting was bad
4/21/2006 12:59:35 PM
folks need to let this die
4/21/2006 1:14:54 PM
4/21/2006 1:16:48 PM
I actually tried watching Enterprise but the writing on that series was horrible. They need to stop with the pop culture image and get back to what made TOS & TNG great.
4/21/2006 1:19:44 PM
Interesting, although I seriously doubt they could make a really spectacular one at this point. Then again, none of the other movies beats Khan anyway.
4/21/2006 1:21:48 PM
4/21/2006 1:40:01 PM
i thought voyager was pretty good............no TNG but what is.
4/21/2006 2:32:13 PM
DS9 fucking rocked.Voyager was "Hey lets steal a TNG episode!"And then later on they sucked the borg plot device dry.
4/21/2006 2:43:03 PM
HonestlyNobody gives a shit about Spock and Kirk. There's no adventure in Star Trek lore thanks to the faggotry of Enterprise.I mean seriously, how much can a series suck its own backround ?I think the main problem with Star Trek right now is that there is no Villian. They fucked up the Borg. The klingons are old hat. They fucked up Romulans too.Now they need something that actually requires brainpower and creative talent to pull off, which paramount obviously has lacked for the better part of a decade.
4/21/2006 2:46:09 PM
there was the dominion, but i dunno if you could really do a DS9 movie.
4/21/2006 2:47:34 PM
a DS9 movie could be done, but since they're probably have to limit themselves to the station for most of the movie it would just feel like a 2 hour episode...
4/21/2006 2:51:58 PM
yea. They'd also have to do some crazy story telling if they want it to take place after the show left off.The writers did a good job in making sure everything got wrapped up so people couldn't come along later and butcher the story.
4/21/2006 2:53:18 PM
it needs whalesand someone should die
4/21/2006 2:55:49 PM
^^Yep, DS9 did end on a pretty good note.
4/21/2006 3:08:19 PM
^^^ they could do a spinoff DS9 thing... but the only feasible story i can think of is something featuring Worf's time with the Klingons...then again, a Worf-centric movie would actually do pretty well... i'd probably go see it
4/21/2006 3:17:13 PM
klingons vs the dominion in the gamma quadrant would be pretty hot.
4/21/2006 3:23:10 PM
4/21/2006 3:27:03 PM
If Picard isnt at the helmim not seeing it
4/21/2006 3:48:14 PM
I suppose now is a good time to admit that I actually liked Star Trek: Generations. But shhh, don't tell anybody.

4/21/2006 3:58:24 PM
What, girls can't like Star Trek? This happened in the BSG thread, too.
4/21/2006 4:02:17 PM
i think different actors as kirk and spock is a terrible idea
4/21/2006 4:04:16 PM
im not saying you can't like star trekim just saying you can't appreciate its finer points.as demonstrated by your enjoyment of generations

How about the movie all fanboy geeks want to see so bad they'd sell away any chance of losing their virginity:STAR WARS VS. STAR TREK
4/21/2006 5:02:53 PM
star wars would win so fast it wouldn't be worth watching
4/21/2006 5:03:49 PM

4/21/2006 5:36:08 PM
i never understood why there were not more star trek movies with the space ship fightinglike i like the 2nd one a lot
4/21/2006 7:57:51 PM
^Because Gene Roddenbury wouldn't allow it. His vision of the future was much better reflected in TNG: clean and sterile, pacifistic and non-militant. He couldn't really pass that off in TOS because it would have sounded too much like communism (which is basically what TNG is), and so no network during the time of TOS would have dared aired it. But in any case, Roddenbury didn't want conflict or combat in Trek to begin with; everybody was suppose to get along nicely. I don't know if the whole "humans are better than everyone else and all alieans can learn something from us" thing came from Roddenbury or later writers, but this is basically what Roddenbury wanted. Or so I am told. The reason TWOK had all those combat scenes and stuff was because Roddenbury didn't direct it. I guess after The Motion Picture, Paramount decided that Roddenbury shouldn't be allowed control of the Trek movies for a while. I think he got control back eventually, but by the time of The Undiscovered Country or so his health had deteriorated badly, and so he couldn't really do much to direct that film.

I forgot the rule. Are even or odd numbers the sucky ones? There is an 80% chance this will suck. They should just put the series down for 10 years and come back when they don't have some weak fucking characters, stories, acting, writing, directors. This is what happens when you have nerdy fucking fans who will cry like little bitches if you deviate from the canon and take risks.[Edited on April 21, 2006 at 9:35 PM. Reason : sdfsdf]

The rule of thumb is that even-numbered movies are good and odd-numbered movies are bad.I had to read other peoples' opinions and critiques of Star Trek before I could really begin to see the numerous problems with the series as a whole. No doubt there's some good series (most of TNG and DS9, as well as TOS), but even these suffer from the same problems. Like, I never noticed before how ALL problems are solved by technobabble. Instead of just sealing off a deck and removing all of the atmosphere to kill an intruder, bitches are always dealt with by disrupting their neural frequencies with a subspace phase-coherent plasma inducing mechatron emitter or some other bullshit. And the really ironic part is that a lot of the situations that Trek people get into are caused by some technobabble nonsense in the first place (case in point, most of Voyager, although it may be a little bit too easy to use Voyager as an example of all the bad things about Trek).I dunno why I never noticed before, except that I wasn't looking or that I didn't care. I wouldn't say I was a Trek fanatic as a kid, I think it'd be going a little too far to even say that I was a Trekkie. I just liked Trek, and so maybe I wasn't prepared to criticize something that I liked.
4/21/2006 9:46:42 PM
damn it, i hate movies that focus on "how the main characters of an older series/movie met"I'd say either have a new TNG movie or start making DS9 movies
4/21/2006 9:52:38 PM

I didn't like Generations at first, but the more I thought about it, the more it grew on me. It wasn't really that bad of a movie.
