Anyone know why the MA242 section 003 is restricted to some students ? Because I meet the requirements for MA242 and can not understand why I am not allowed to select MA242 section 003.

^ aka.it is restricted FOR you. Often the restricted seats are partial- ie. on most COM 110 classes a few - only a few seats- are restricted for COMM majors. The rest are for everyone.

Always check to see if you meet the restriction or if the restriction is only partial.

Above the section you're talking about: "COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING WIRELESS LAPTOP PILOT"

I'd assume from that that "LT" stands for Laptop.


"LT" has something to do with "Laptop Initiative Courses." See the site below for more information.

The laptop program in MA 141/241/242 involves sections in which Maple is used extensively (typically twice a week) in class, thus the need for every student to have a laptop. I believe that it is restricted to first-year students in the College of Engineering. The folks in the math department office (515-2382) should have more info about eligibility.
