ok... so how long does it take to rinse out the gravel, and how important is it?I just bought a tank, and i've been trying to rinse out the damn gravel, but it's taking forever...could be the fact that it's black, so the water is just looking dark and murky, or it's just little pieces of gravel dust floating around.also, anyone got any other techniques besides swirling it around in a bucket?

just take a hose and rinse it. Shouldn't take more than 20 mins.

well there's still sediment floating around in the rinse water... do i need to keep going until that disappears, or am i just trying to get rid of any chemicals in there...

you can put it in the tank already, youre just rinsing off the dust, the rocks themselves dont need any preparation because theyre already safe for fish. put the gravel in first then water for your tank and PLEASE GOD dont forget the dechlorinator.

The darker the gravel is, the better you'll be able to see the sediment off the rocks. Rinse for about 20 minutes and then go ahead and put it in your tank and fill it up. The rest of the sediment that hasn't rinsed off will settle down in a couple of hours. Have fun - it's an addictive hobby!
