Is anyone still playing, going back to it, or starting anew in EQ?I've gone back and raided BoT last night with my 65 druid and am working on a 10 shaman, Cazic Thule server.Just something about it keeps pulling me back in. I played EQ2 and WoW for a while, but they didn't have that quality, although I have reconsidered EQ2.

I would think with all this hype about WoW, Sony would shut down the servers for EverCrack.
4/13/2006 12:36:10 PM
There are still millions of subscribers for Everquest... aka lots more than WoW. Why stop a profitable venture?
4/13/2006 12:50:04 PM
WoW is up to over 5 millionwhats Everquest at?
4/13/2006 12:53:21 PM
Are there? How many current subscribers does Everquest have?
4/13/2006 12:53:22 PM
EQ never broke a million subscribers.Last report on WoW numbers put active subscribers at 6 million I think.

goddamn blizzard just beats the shit out of everything it does

So when Raige said there were lots more subscribers for Everquest than WoW, what he actually MEANT to say was that Everquest has about 1/10th of the subscribers that WoW has.[Edited on April 13, 2006 at 1:56 PM. Reason : asdf]

4/13/2006 2:32:43 PM

I'm talking about EQ1, not 2. There are still enough people for some of the old guilds to survive, and to have enough resources for buffs, raids, etc, but they have far fewer servers after doing a lot of merging.I guess I must like the challenges of having no quest journal in EQ, and the length of some of the major quests, as well as flagging. The quest journalling in EQ2 and WoW made me feel rushed at times, or discombobulated as I tried to figure out how efficiently I could complete them all. The disadvantage of EQ1 is the exp grinding in order to get high enough level to do better quests.I also prefer the tradeskilling of EQ1 over the other two.[Edited on April 13, 2006 at 3:24 PM. is it just me or did anyone else read that^ and go damn... i know english.. hell i know the games that are talked about... but didnt understand a word of that?!?!? granted ive never played them, but who has the time?
4/13/2006 3:42:59 PM
if youve never played themwhy are you suprised you dont know what he is talking about?
4/13/2006 3:44:20 PM
I can't imagine how not having a quest journal would make a game better.
4/13/2006 3:46:35 PM
Games are getting too easy. I miss EQ

4/13/2006 6:19:17 PM
haha ddlakhan, if you never played them you definitely won't understand. But in layman's terms:exp = experience, which is how you gain higher levels (through killing monsters)buffs = buffing your character up with spells that increase things like strength, wisdom, etc.raids = large events where a lot of people get together to all fight one (or multiple) really high level, difficult to kill monsterflagging = basically keys to get to higher level zones (worlds or "countries")quests = projects to do in order to get a certain item, experience or moneyexp grinding = fighting monsters nonstop to gain as much experience possible in as short a time as possible

Its totally true, I played EQ on and off from 1999-2004ish. I quit like 4 times and but I just couldn't stay away until WoW came out, but now WoW sucks and I have nothing to do. Problem is none of my old friends play anymore and they merged all the PvP servers together so I'd be playing with the haters from RZ.
4/13/2006 9:07:16 PM
played eq for 2 years. most ive played another mmo since has been 4 months (wow). they just arent as addicting. then again they probably are more fun in the general sense of the word.
4/13/2006 9:19:23 PM
Vanguard will remove any chance I have of playing on the new EQ Progression server.
4/13/2006 9:41:27 PM
Vanguard is definitely where it is at.Yeah, I played EQ for about 3 years total and quit a good 4 imes or so too.
4/13/2006 11:03:20 PM
its not that the new mmo's are easier, its that the guides are in easier access, and people are more competitive
4/13/2006 11:12:36 PM
Naw, WoW is much easier than EQ, in my opinion, although I didn't get really high level in WoW so maybe later on it may be different. So does this mean no one is playing EQ at the moment?
4/14/2006 10:34:48 AM
no, it is easier. plenty of ppl had guides during the eq1 days. some things are just less annoying and some are generally much easier. WOW-less time to level-less death penalty (a LOT less)-less addicitve/engaging+better pvp (though i find pvp in general to be pretty gay in these games)+better quest system (from when i played)+more fun in general

I've never met an Everquest player who wasn't a complete loser. Then again, I've only met one. I generally don't come into contact with losers very often.
4/14/2006 11:44:57 AM
hahah fagnorock
4/14/2006 11:46:51 AM
I play EQ2, got sucked in by the free 1-month trial. Never played EQ1, but this game rocks. Some people take it way too seriously though.
