good news for the repubs. bad news for dems. he was going to lose that congressional seat to the any unnamed democratic challenger. they had to get someone in there who had a chance at winning.im sad to see him go. i was looking forward to the election massacre.

From Dr. Cobb's class this morning:He is leaving Texas and moving to Virginia so that they can replace him on the ballot, because he is not dead and he would not be convicted before november.

This is not bad news for Dems.

^ How, from a recent news standpoint, do you think Delay dropping out of the congressional election, is good news for Dems? It is bad news for the dems. Delay recently won his repub. primary and he said he was gonna keep campaigning for relection. had that remained true, then democrats most definitely would win that seat. not only that, it would be a continual talking point: the ethically challenged republican congressman from Texas, the big GWB supporter, Tom Delay. It would remain a current topic with every pundit, and voters would continually be reminded about it every time they turned around because it would be relevant to the Dems taking on the Reps as national parties.now, hes pulled himself out, and will no longer be a front burner in the national press. sure he'll come up from time to time, and the damage he has done to the Reps has been done.... but by pulling out now, he pretty much ceases to do further damage to the Rep Party. Had he stayed in, he would have continued to burn that hole he was burning.I mean sure, when the scandal broke it was good news, and Dems have gotten a good bit of mileage from it. But Delay is already gone as Majority Leader. he's been defanged and declawed. putting him out of his misery is the best thing for the republicans. the best thing for the democrats would be to keep him in so they could kick him around some more.

yepyou don't even hear about abramoff anymore reallyand the dems need something they can sink their teeth intobesides beating up capitol police officers
4/5/2006 12:57:41 AM
You're confusing "it's not bad news for Dems" with "it's good news for Dems."
4/5/2006 12:58:41 AM
^ ok, my bad. still, it is bad news. okay, it not really REALLY bad... but definitely unfortunate. Had Delay stayed in like he said he was (and everyone thought he was), it would have been a goldmine for dems. now he took his ball and went home. you can't very well beat up someone who's not there anymore. and practically speaking, this congressional seat has moved from "Democratic Win", to "Unknown/Uncertain"[Edited on April 5, 2006 at 1:09 AM. Instead of dwindling on until people get bored of it, it’s a loud and last hurrah for corruption and republican weakness. Not having a sured up election might not be a great thing for dems, but delay seems like a lose-lose guy for the republicans, so dems are atleast not hurt by this I believe. And if dems still manage to win then this republican falling out of power will have turned out to be a good thing I believe.

^^^ Apparently that wasn't the end of it...An email from Delay's campaign manager before the planned, violent disruption of Nick Lampson's press conference this morning:
