NC State would be a powerhouse team
3/29/2006 3:35:02 PM
FIRE [FUTURE NC STATE NASCAR COACH]!!!1!
3/29/2006 3:37:56 PM
Im sick of having a mediocre nascar team. I am gonna go cry to Lee Fowler.
3/29/2006 3:54:10 PM
How would the NCAA count eligibility?? Would you only get 5 years to play 4?
3/29/2006 4:07:52 PM
uncc would kill us, they already have a racing engineering program
3/29/2006 4:08:50 PM
Purdue also seems to be a racecar driver's powerhouse....
3/29/2006 4:10:15 PM
^^LOLI heard a rumor a few years back thet we were gonna try to field a car... then the budget cuts.
3/29/2006 4:17:34 PM
back when i was looking at prospective colleges, i noticed the 'motorsports engineering' concentration/major/whatever at unccharlotte - i mean if anybody's gonna have that major, might as well be my hometown check it http://www.mees.uncc.edu/motorsprt/index.html
3/29/2006 4:42:38 PM
it seems like better than half the drivers and crews come from the greater Charlotte area... Moorsevilly in particular. Shit Lowe's is moving their Corp. HQ there.
3/29/2006 4:45:24 PM
lowes already has moved their corporate HQ there, it used to be in Wilkesboro, as did the home of racing. Now its gone down the toilet.
3/29/2006 4:59:19 PM
nascar is a sport?
3/29/2006 5:08:24 PM
^^I can attest to that. I'm from North Wilkesboro. We used to be the home of Lowe's Home Improvement, North Wilkesboro Motor Speedway, and Holly Farms. Now all three are gone, and the county is a shell of it's former self. They're trying to diversify and get more jobs, but it's really hard when you're an industry based economy and the industry is moving to Mexico.
3/29/2006 5:13:29 PM
3/29/2006 5:21:41 PM
I guess having a talented driver would not matter......
3/29/2006 5:24:01 PM
formular sae is a lot different than nascar. uncc, given its location and resources that come with that, would kick our ass
3/29/2006 5:35:56 PM
well i was commenting on the thought that UNCC would kick our ass just because they have a racing engineering program. we've got some pretty bright students here that have already proven that they can design and build an outstanding open wheeled race car, and could definitely do well in designing a nascar race car. here's a list of their current corporate sponsors:Goodyear Tires Calico Coatings Polaris Envision Solidworks Corporation SKF Bearings TIMKEN ATI Industrial Automation Richard Childress Racing CD-Adapco Dynamic Digital MoTeC Stainless Steel Fabricators Crawford Composites Haulmark Cytec Engineering Materials
3/29/2006 5:40:34 PM
you can get pretty good at stock car racing with little to none in-house engineering*(i use engineering to mean the type of stuff you need a degree for)
3/29/2006 5:54:46 PM
plz to provide more info and/or links to Wolpack racing successthanks!

3/29/2006 6:44:19 PM
"nascar is a sport?"lol, I hope you don't think golf is a sport.
3/29/2006 6:56:29 PM
I dont want to get in the debate over whether or not golf and racing are sports, but still... if they had NCAA teams and races, conferences champions race a national circuit... say 40 cars at the end of it, that would be pretty sweet...
3/29/2006 7:00:40 PM
well they use to have the NC State, UNC, UNCC, Duke, WF, Clemson, SC, and ECU legends car race each other befopre the BGN race on saturdays at Charlotte, I dont think they do anymore though
3/29/2006 7:26:09 PM
nc state stopped running a legends car because of poor book keeping and the fact that little engineering was involved, dont think they have started back
3/29/2006 7:38:27 PM

^^^^Who's photochop was that? or what was the deal. Looks pretty sharp. The lnx didn't work for me, I'm assuming it's real... good pic either way.Their site is undergoing repairs.[Edited on March 29, 2006 at 10:49 PM. Reason : .][Edited on March 29, 2006 at 10:50 PM. Reason : repairs.]

3/30/2006 9:56:08 AM
you people forget, regardless of their curriculum, UNC-C students are still idiots.p.s. i fucking hate Nascar.6 str8 hours of this: [Edited on March 30, 2006 at 10:34 AM. Reason : tada]
3/30/2006 10:17:52 AM
beardawg, guth is right, it's the real thing...that car was run at Charlotte. Elton Sawyer was the driver. They also had a UNC car, Auburn car, and several other teams on the car that year.
3/30/2006 11:36:53 AM
wonder if Elliott Sadler would go back to college at VT and race this car:
3/30/2006 11:46:11 AM
Ive always thought it would be pretty cool if there was some form of college motorsports that would be marketable to a TV audience....something that might get an ESPN or FOX to pay money to broadcast. Maybe schools could host a "home race" at a nearby short track (definitely need to stick to short tracks).
3/30/2006 1:09:58 PM
kontra, Cale Yarborough and some others were starting a new racing series called "Trak"....they shoulda used the oppurtunity, but they fell thru before it ever got started...mighta got more backing had they decided to go the route you are speaking of.
3/30/2006 1:32:10 PM
i got a track if you get the teams
3/30/2006 2:05:16 PM
North Wilkesboro Motor Speedway could host a college cup race!
3/30/2006 2:11:31 PM
I hate passing that track and Rockingham when I'm driving, it's sad. The Rock is sadder to me since that was first place I ever went to a race, 1990 AC Delco 500 that Alan Kulwicki won. I swear my eyes water every time I pass that track, such good good memories there. That's why I dont watch any fucking California, Texas, or Loudon races on tv...they can die and burn in hell. lol.
3/30/2006 3:34:33 PM
1234chs is a 5* recruit at Jackman
3/30/2006 4:23:25 PM
I was born and raised in North Wilkesboro. I went to the track every spring and fall for time trials. I used to go ride around the track on Saturday with the man that owned it. To see it rotting on the hill upsets me greatly. I would rather it be bulldozed than for it to sit there begging for attention. I used to love seeing all the drivers at the local resturaunts, getting my race programs autographed by all the drivers (except Earnhardt who wouldn't sign ). My dad and I would always go. I really miss it. I would love to see races there again. Let's get the College Cup going....
3/30/2006 4:27:34 PM
I got in a fight at North Wilkesboro.....during a race
3/30/2006 4:35:09 PM
