So my car has a March 06 on it, but its in the shop and prolly will be till late next week, can I get a letter from the mechanic and avoid the fine, or do I need to get it inspected and let it fail, and get myself 30 more days (a re-inspection at the same place is only $5)]

I really hope you meant March 2006
3/26/2006 9:12:12 AM
^perhaps march 05 was the date of the last inspection...
3/26/2006 9:13:19 AM
yeah, that was the last inspection
3/26/2006 9:24:22 AM
Oh, good. I thought you meant it was suppsoed to be inspected March of last year, as if it was expired for a year.I think you only get fined if you get caught. My dad's driven his cadillac 2 months over the inspection because he forgot. I don't think the people at the Inspection Station care, it's more of the police. Or maybe it's because our mechanic didn't care enough to fine him?

youll eventually get a notice from DMV with either a fine, or saying you might be getting fined.but lets not be a slack ass on somethig that takes less time to do than an oil change.just find a shop that has the time. and they should knock it out if they arent assholes about everything.
3/26/2006 12:12:59 PM
naw.. you get 3 months i believe until you actually get the fineits a warning before that

i just got my car inspected for the first time since ive owned iti bought it in 2004
3/26/2006 6:29:16 PM
^i bought my jeep in 2004still haven't gotten it inspectedit is now a full 14 months overdue for inspection
3/26/2006 6:56:14 PM
i love threads like this, it always brings out the cool people who like to tell us all how long its been since they got their cars inspectedwish i were that cool
3/26/2006 7:02:43 PM
who the fuck are you again?
3/26/2006 7:11:14 PM
just another asshole behind a screenname, same as the rest of you fucks on this or any forum on the planet.cause i could ask you the same question.
3/26/2006 7:54:09 PM
i was due in november, and i have until may 1st to get it done to avoid the $250 fine...but i have an OBD-II car
3/26/2006 10:27:12 PM
they still do visuals on emissions stuff, right?cause i think i smelled my cat and if it dies i want to just put in a test pipe
3/26/2006 10:37:26 PM
you have plenty of time, mine ran up in january and they just sent me the fine letter saying i had to get it done by june to avoid it. guess that gives you 6 months after it expires before the fine is actually assessed
3/26/2006 10:56:08 PM
3/26/2006 11:28:56 PM
this is probably lame to bring this thread back up...
6/7/2006 11:35:42 PM
That is not true. The DMV gives a person 15 days into the next month to get an inspection. Go to court on that one, do not pay.
6/7/2006 11:38:10 PM
well if that's true, why would the cop have written the ticket? and anyway, he'll still have to pay the court costs to fight not paying the fine won't he? the actual penalty is $25 and court costs another $110.it just really made me mad b/c he was a freaking one week over the expiration. she coulda just been like "hey just do it tomorrow, ok?"
6/7/2006 11:45:34 PM
if it's thrown out you don't pay anything - otherwise they could give out bullshit tickets all day and get a lot of court costs
6/7/2006 11:48:03 PM
well if that's the case you all are a HUGE help. i'm trying to find some actual evidence that this may be true on the dmv website but am having a hard time. maxima, do you have some proof of this?
6/7/2006 11:51:05 PM
Don't know if this will help, but:1) My inspection sticker said May 20062) Went and got it inspected on May 10, 20063) Recieved a letter from DMV with a fine on May 12, 20064) Called the 800 number, told them my story, and I didn't have to pay the fine
6/8/2006 11:42:47 AM
also with those inspection tickets, you can get it inspected, take the receipt to the courthouse and they'll drop the ticket.
6/8/2006 12:21:01 PM
^right, but if his sticker says May, and he got the ticket in June, it shoudn't matter whether or not he got it inspected. the ticket was for it being overdue. (unless you're saying that the 15 day grace period that maximadrvr referred to is true.) i still have no proof that this grace period even exists.
6/8/2006 1:31:10 PM
You can go get the car inspected now. Then you take that sheet with you to court (receipt and passing paper) and they will most likely throw out the ticket.
6/8/2006 1:32:07 PM
the grace period is on registration only, inpections are out the 1st day of the month, and you better believe the cops look for that shit at the beggining of the monthalso, if you are past due for an inspection, you have to have the original month put on there, so you don't save any money draging it out a month or two[Edited on June 8, 2006 at 1:37 PM.
