bio 183 with beckmann.. awesome professor- real nice, laid-back guy, makes class fun, easy to understand, and will answer any questions before going on to the next subject/topic.. his tests are super easy if you just study what he tells you, he holds study sessions before each test for his 183 class.

I'm a TA for BO 200 and unfortunately, yes it's true that Dr. Van Dyke is retiring. It's really sad, but after 30+ years of teaching and the number of grandchildren approaching 20, he seems to be ready to go. He's been a great professor and a great friend to me personally, and I'm happy that after seeing all he does for his students, he is finally doing this for his family. I honestly have no idea what the botany dept. will do without him, I can't think of a bigger pair of shoes to fill than his.

Okay y'all- help me do this: Nominate Dr. Van Dyke for a University Advising Award. Like you, I think he is amazing and I can't believe he is retiring (thought he was WAY to young for that). But he has touched the lives of many students as evident by your statements. I am putting together a nomination packet. I need at least one letter from a student, but more are welcome. RattlerRyan, I would love to have one from you since you TA for him. The category is for a faculty member who has teaching and research responsibilities, but who also advises. I need a letter to me by April 3rd. PM and I will tell you where to send it, drop it off. Here is the award listing. The Provost gives out this recognition. http://www.ncsu.edu/provost/awards/advising_awards/index.htmlThanks in advance.

When is he actually going to retire? Is it this semester or next spring? I know some faculty go on "phased" retirement to help tie up loose ends. And who's gonna be the new undergraduate advisor? [Edited on March 27, 2006 at 12:07 PM. Reason : typing errors yo]
