So I want to buy a new 2.1 speaker system for my computer I don't want 5 speakers taking up my entire desk. I'm thinking about this set right now...

Make some good suggestions and if you have a certain set you like tell me why

go grab one of these JVC gigatube stereos:
http://cgi.ebay.com/JVC-3-CD-Compact-Stereo-System_W0QQitemZ9700306743QQcategoryZ67802QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I dont know about overall sound quality (I'm sure it's as good or better than your altec lansings) but I remember it having PLENTY of bass 460watts!

front auxiliary input means either L and R RCA jacks or a 1/8" stereo jack (like a microphone/headset jack)

You still have time to bid

I would look for a used reciever and some speakers. Shit you can buy a cheapy reciever for less than $100 at best buy and such.

Get some bookshelf or floor standing speakers. You would be able to listen to the radio etc as well as the pc. Would probably sound better unless you want the bloated lows of most pc systems.

*shrug* I agree with ^
I've got a yamaha 5650 with two older fisher and three newer pioneer speakers hooked through it.. not exactly conservative on space, but I figgure the reciever will last near forever (might get better speakers later on).. That, and I can plug quite a bit of stuff into it and control most of it with one remote

I find that statement ironic, coming from a guy with the screen name "BUMPING TAHOE"

who's to say those JVC's blast distortion? I'll take real-sized speakers anyday over little 2" drivers trying to do midrange frequencies

The klipsch promedia 2.1 is the best 2.1 speaker set I've ever heard (and I've heard quite a few, and I'm also very picky about sound).

Logitech speakers aren't even close.

They're expensive, but they're worth it. 2.1 is better than surround for music anyway.

Now - you say you don't want 5 speakers taking up space on your desk - you do know that 2 are supposed to go behind you right?? Otherwise you might as well get a 2.1 system, cause the surround isn't helping you.

haha good point. but this is a name from my younger, dumbass-er years that i've just kept using. i don't even have a tahoe anymore, wrecked it i have been anti-bass since the last place i lived, all i heard from next door was bass for 20/24 hours of the day.

Good job. Spending under 40 bucks on computer speakers, go with a 2.1 computer speaker set.

Anything over that and you are better off with a true home stereo.
