Please adopt. Tarheel Weimaraner Club http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=1&pet.Shelterid=NC26&preview=1. They have a few young dogs on the website! These dogs are needing homes, why would you want to get one from a breeder?

I'm in search of one of these dogs in the near future as well.are these dogs good with cats??? it looks like everyone they have listed on the website says that they arent and we already have a cat.[Edited on March 22, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Reason : dog]

the youngest one on there is 15 months. i want one that i can have a real impact on the early training. i'm pretty particular about habits dogs (and people ) have.

these dogs get huge and strong as hellhope you know what you getting before you buy itthey are good dogs, but i suspect impulse buys here

They're good dogs, very loyal and sweet. The one i know is good with cats. She is very strong though, and don't get one if you don't plan on spending a lot of time with it. From what i understand, they tend to get really attached to their owner, and get neurotic when they aren't around (ie. chewing on furniture, eating any food within reach including whole loaves of bread)

yeah, they are really needy and clingy, esp if you work and are out of the house for like 8 hrs a day it will be going crazy by the time you get home...at least that's what happened with the one i lived with over the summer when I rented a room in a house where the owner had a weimaraner.

I've had several weims and love 'em. They are suited for a specific type of person however.Mine have always hated cats(instinctive hunting dog) and needed to be run daily. This isnt the type of dog that you leave in the back yard all day unattended or in the house. They are smart and can be very destructive. They are needy and clingy at times and aloof others. They aren't a passive member of the family. Its the closest thing to having children.

that's the only dog that has accidentally injured me, almost broke my arm as I was walking her into the kennel, she ran back out the door when the dogs started barking and slammed my arm/elbow against the steel doorframe. Bruised as hell. They are strong and a little wild, but if you know how to train a dog and give it the proper excercise they are great pets. Good luck!

pigkilla - i'm trying to be as responsible and plan as much as i can, but i am still a stupid college kid, eh. working on fixing that.memo- yes, that's why i want a young one. thanks for saying what i meanteestudent - i wouldn't get a dog at all if i were going to be gone 8 hours in a row, that's mean. poison nut - people who leave dogs outside don't count as dog owners to me . and i hate cats too, so we're perfect for each other =) and passive family members aren't family members neither. you speak the truth.elise - you're lucky, or not a klutz like i am. i have definitely broken teeth playing with my other puppies! and kennels booooi'm so opinionated, wow.

My family has a 9 year old weimaraner and she's great. She's definitely intelligent and is emotionally attached the owners. She knows everybody's name in my family and will run to the person anywhere in the house on command. Plus, she gets the newspaper every morning.

The whole "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is BS btw.You can totally obedience train an older dog. People do it all the time. My 11 yr old dog is learning new stuff from watching us train our puppy.
