Per CBS Sportsline.comIf it's not interim coach Andy Kennedy -- and it should be interim coach Andy Kennedy -- the longtime buzz has said this job is between Murray State's Mick Cronin and George Washington's Karl Hobbs. However, North Carolina State coach Herb Sendek is a late-arriving dark horse. And let's be honest: Sendek would be perfect. He's a winner, he once coached down the road at Miami (Ohio), he's a Midwest native (Pittsburgh) and he's got the Eagle Scout personal life Cincinnati craves.
3/21/2006 12:51:52 PM
Herb could do better that Cincinnati if he were choosing to leave.
3/21/2006 12:55:49 PM
he also craves a fanbase who actually supports him
3/21/2006 12:56:07 PM
when did pittsburgh become the midwest?
3/21/2006 12:56:25 PM
if you aint NY/NJ/CONN/MASS...
3/21/2006 12:57:09 PM
Is Herb an Eagle Scout, I am, and he would gain favor in my eyes if he was
3/21/2006 12:58:19 PM
Cincy is big east, he had success at Miami (OH); can't do a whole lot better than that if he wanted to leave here.
3/21/2006 12:58:55 PM
^^^^since it was, like, less than an hour from ohiosteel/rust belt=midwestoh herb, please go. theyll welcome you there and its the big east, so itll be a challenge. dont take this abuse.[Edited on March 21, 2006 at 12:59 PM. Reason : .]
3/21/2006 12:59:05 PM
you all do realize that if herb leaves, there's no way chris wright will still come here. if anything he'll follow herb.
3/21/2006 1:07:24 PM
Wherever herb goes, I will be a fan.
3/21/2006 1:07:46 PM
who cares?i dont pull for a coach or a player, i pull my school
3/21/2006 1:10:56 PM
he wont leave
3/21/2006 1:12:07 PM
^ I hope not
3/21/2006 1:20:35 PM
watch him be ready to go, then youll give him that plaque and he'll stay, and then we'll go to the nit next year
did prosser ever say he wasn't interested in the position?
3/21/2006 1:21:52 PM
^^so you REALLY think that if he STAYS we make the NIT next year, but if he leaves we will make the NCAA tourny?
3/21/2006 1:23:06 PM
Go Herb Go Herb Go Herb III&FH
3/21/2006 1:38:04 PM
who knows. do you think he will win the acc in the next 5 years? that will have given him 15 years to win the acc. im not saying we should compete w/ duke, thats crazy. Wake has won multiple ACC titles in the past decade, why shouldnt we?simple question: will herb win the acc before he hits season #15? this is the longest a coach has ever coached in the acc w/o an acc title, elite eight, final four, or at least 2 trips past the 2nd round.
3/21/2006 2:05:33 PM
prosser? are you seriousthe inter-acc transfer is a bad ideasee also: mike co'cain
3/21/2006 2:07:01 PM
Huh?The talk about Prosser was that Cinci wanted him to fill the job (prior to his abysmal performance this season, which quieted most of the rumors).I don't think any sane person would want Prosser here.
3/21/2006 2:09:51 PM
I say, if he cant win either an ACC regular season championship, an ACC tournament title, or get to a final 4 in the next 2 years, its time for him to go. That gives him a lot of options. It gives him Cedric Simmons as a Senior with Gavin, along with Fells, Costner, McCauley....this could be a sick starting 5....plus Chris Wright as a true point guard (although a freshman, could still work) to break the press if necessary, and our guys from next year comming off the bench unless one steps up to be really good. I dont think thats too much to ask. If we're as close as he and his supporters say we are, then its a really good possiblility.
3/21/2006 2:12:16 PM
IF HERB LEAVES TO GO TO CINCY HE WILL BE IN THE SAME SITUATION....THAT PROGRAM PROBABLY HAS HIGHER EXPECTATIONS THAN NC STATE....THEY HAVE HAD SOME OF THE BEST TALENT IN THE COUNTRY COME THROUGH THERE OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS...AND WERE CONSTANTS IN THE NCAA TOURNEY....THEY NEVER SHOWED UP IN THE TOURNEY AND HUGGINS ROLLED......WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THEY WOULDN'T DO THE SAME TO HERB
3/21/2006 2:22:45 PM
Come on Nate. You know the answer. It's because people on here don't realize basketball exists outside of the ACC..
3/21/2006 2:24:42 PM
You guys underestimate what Sendek had to go through to get the program's image squeaky clean with solid grad rates. I know that guys like Thornton, Inge, and Kelly were really entertaining (off the court as well), but they weren't missed from an image standpoint. Going to Cincy will put him back at sqaure one regarding that aspect. Although a lucrative offer cures all those ills, every man has his price. But I don't see Cincy coughing up the change. And this Wright kid....Regardless of which side you're on, you don't base the actions of an entire program on one single recruit who has yet to even sign on the dotted line as previously mentioned.
3/21/2006 2:29:52 PM
IF Herb leaves, it'll be to Pitt.
3/21/2006 2:50:52 PM
3/21/2006 2:53:44 PM
3/21/2006 4:18:50 PM
yeah you're right, herb doesn't recruit guys with character and solid grades. he prefers thugs that get into trouble with the law and give the university a bad name
3/21/2006 4:47:32 PM
Ingle, thornton, harrison, harington, etc. etc. etc. etc.
3/21/2006 4:56:56 PM
Before my parents moved we got the Wake Forest paper and the #1 Most Wanted guy in Wake Forest was Damon Thornton. He hit some dude with his car and drove off drunk as shit..
3/21/2006 4:59:17 PM
^^ Ingle?
3/21/2006 5:16:58 PM
3/21/2006 5:54:05 PM
kenny inge maybe? Came in with Archie Miller. heck of a nice guy, used to see him on campus all the time...anyway, he was far from a thug
3/21/2006 6:26:40 PM
but he dated a white chickthus, we can't like him
3/21/2006 6:33:37 PM
just as long as he gets the fuck out of here
3/21/2006 7:00:39 PM
Kenny Inge was thug as hell.
3/21/2006 7:35:01 PM
3/21/2006 7:59:35 PM
what time zone is pittsburgh in?
3/21/2006 8:00:42 PM
3/21/2006 8:04:18 PM

3/21/2006 8:43:25 PM
ah oki mean the whole midwest is a pretty ambiguous geographical region depending on who you ask it can include any of the following: Oklahoma, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, and either of the Dakotas.
3/21/2006 8:49:25 PM
^dont forget michigan and indiana... but colorado is not a midwestern state they are just s.o.l
3/21/2006 8:55:12 PM
^^You forgot Ohio[Edited on March 21, 2006 at 8:56 PM. Reason : 2]
3/21/2006 8:56:02 PM
Grundy got arrested for domestic abuse in the apartment above mine in 2001 for beating his girlfriend. sounds like another class act that Sendek recruited.
3/21/2006 9:01:49 PM
I would buy all of sportstalk a drink if this happened
3/21/2006 9:12:47 PM
^ Grundy was acquitted. Most presumed the girl made it up.
3/21/2006 10:25:02 PM
grundy was the man, I don't even believe that shit.
3/21/2006 10:26:29 PM
i was talking about herb leaving for somewhere
