I was looking at the website and it says you register for parking then it is offered later...when is parking generally offered to students?

Never

only in places too far away to park. that is, too far away from your classes. I overpay like crazy ($350/semester) for ValPark since I commute from Durham, and the walk from there to Tompkins when its cold is muderous. Especially walking past those litle UT shit heads.

Man, you are one angry person

seems fitting for TWW

ValPark is never recommended.First round of parking permits is offered in July. If you're abroad or out of town, you must check your NCSU email regularly to make sure you recieve the notification and pay before you forfeit your "space".If you don't get a permit, there are lots of park and rides you can use, as well as free on-street parking near many off-campus Wolfline stops. There's no reason to pay $700/school year for parking at NC State.

They will email you far ahead of time. Just make sure you remember to sign up for one when you register for classes.

since they are converting the centennial park & ride lots into permit lots parking is just going to get worse... and the on street parking will become even more scarce... so for next year you'll have to weigh whether it's worth the hassle... or whether their ridiculous $350/sem parking will just save you a lot of headaches, missed classes, etc. There is no doubt the price is ridiculous, but such a limited supply of prime parking and such a high demand for having the right to park there... it's ridiculous but the economics of the situation make it all possible.

^ They already got rid of the varsity park and ride. Transportation is bitches.

i had Valpark all 4 years i was at state I can't believe how much the price increased since then, but I always liked the fact that all I had to do was pull into my numbered space - it saved me a lot of hassle...but my classes werent all the way on the other side of campus either...

lets riot if they seriously make centennial a pay lot. seriously, how much more can they rip students off. it's ridiculous.

Considering the fact that I pay out-of-state tuition, I ought to get a VIP spot on campus. The only time I got a campus parking permit was when I had summer school and I got it from a friend for ridiculously cheap. Otherwise I think it's insane what some people pay for a spot. There's tons of free parking around State, you just have to know where to look.

I looked into valpark (the area by UT right?), and they offered me a spot in the grass/dirt area in someone’s back yard with a bunch of beat up cars that seem to have been vandalized. That combined with the ridiculous price made me turn them done. Luckily I had something better come along.

^^^ over by the vet school

Be glad that for once, they charge staff more than they do students, for the exact same thing. Students don't pay much less, but at least transportation doesn't have this backwards.Staff:DC/DD: $258E: $240F: $174Student:DC/DD: $245E: $223F: $158Question: C permits are available to grad students, and to permanent employees. I'm guessing any C permits that go to grad students go to ones with TA positions or other campus jobs like that. Is this so? If I get my employee status changed to permanent, would I try to get a C permit through TRACS like all the other students, or through work?
3/21/2006 4:54:25 PM
you would get it through work. your department can provide you with something to take over to transportation.

In my 4 years at State, I parked at the Coliseum Deck 3 of the 4 years, and had an E permit (or whatever they are calling the West lot now) my first year. I don't know why you people bitch about NCSU transportation... you just have to know how to work the system, or take advantage of permits that aren't paid for.

Just park in the 2-hour parking and pay the $12 fine. In the longer run, it'll end up being cheaper than buying a permit
