My neighbor has one and wants to do a brake upgrade. Slotted or drilled rotors are an option. He doesnt race it so no brembo or super high dollar stuff please. Some links or personal experience is welcome. Also what is a low dust pad that works good for these. Thanks.

why does he want brake upgrades??stock brakes are just fine for the street.hell, put my 10 spd huffy brakes on it. it will stop

your neighbor wants some bling

put some decent pads on it and call it a daylike carbotech bobcats etc[Edited on March 20, 2006 at 1:22 PM. Reason : adfdf]

if they really do want better brakes maybe some SS brake lines as well

Tell him to stay with the stockies. I've (01 330ci also) stayed with the stockies because you aren't gonna get that much over the stock except for style, if you can call it that. If he's looking for less brake dust try some axxis pads.

They've nailed it pretty well thus far - if he doesn't believe us, just tell him to check out Bimmerforums or Bimmerfest. The brakes that are on the car now are actually really good. The only reason he'd want to do it are the following:1) BIGGER brakes (count on 1500-2500 total pricewise...)2) Looks...and that all depends on what you consider good.Otherwise, just drop some money on OEM blanks or Brembo blanks or something of the sort and get some decent pads Mike

Talk him out of drilled rotors, zimmerman's are a waste of $ imho. Like said above, decent set of front pads and call it a day. But if he's not tracking or doing autox, no reason to switch from OEM pads.[Edited on March 20, 2006 at 2:57 PM. Reason : .]

Great Lakes Auto Supply800.246.4567 is their number, ask for Jessica, and say that you were referred from bimmerforums.com and that you saw the front OEM brembo replacement rotors for $35 shipped and the rear Zimmermans for $45 shipped...(they are both not cross drilled) and $90 shipped for front and rear Axxis ultimates

you guys understand that you can spend thousands on brake upgrade, but you wont stop any faster unless you spend the $texas on better tires.so pretty much you is wasting your $$.only thing you can do is prevent heat and dust and perhaps wear with getting better pads/lines and fluid

Thanks guys, Ill forward the info to him. Just curious, Seems like slotted/drilled rotors would cause alot quicker pad wear and obviously more dust. true or false.
3/20/2006 5:40:12 PM
and yes he wants some bling
3/20/2006 5:40:51 PM
get some larger rotors and calipers from a wreck / salvage yard and make your own
3/20/2006 5:43:57 PM
you gotta remember. a blank rotor is stronger than a slotted and drilled. which is the weakest because all that metal is gone.your best bet. maybe some slotted rotors if he wants bling. and if you do, get some name brand shit. the cheap shit will fuck him over
3/20/2006 5:45:00 PM
stock rotors and some good pads.
3/20/2006 6:29:29 PM
Thanks again guys. I sent this thread to him. Ill let you know what he decided. Where is a good place to get the SS brake hoses?
3/20/2006 6:57:55 PM
i'd put my money someplace elsebut definitely wouldn't go past more aggressive pads and SS brake lines
3/20/2006 7:03:08 PM
slotted rotors are the biggest waste of money ever...I had a pair and they served no purpose other than to EAT through my brakepads every 3-6months
