- we show promise atleast i hope. we looked good when we had grant, atsur, fells, mccauly (simmons), brackman (if he returns). thats when we went on a good run in the 1st half with good defense and turnovers.

- i think that also proves that we should let our offense "loosen up" and maybe run a little more or play a quicker tempo with these ATHLETES we have.

add some more...

Brackman is NOT comming back, and if he does, I'll shoot him if he starts playing baseball before basketball season is over. I'd rather not have him at all than have him figuratively fuck us in ass like he did at the end of this season.

I'd also like to see what he can do with a full season of baseball. If we're as good next year as we are this year, and we have a full strength brackman pitching, we could be dangerous.

- simmons needs to gain 30lbs. like brackman and get tough inside and work on his shot

- simmons needs better hands, eye to ball coordination catching the ball inside

hopefully with Costner being healthy and having Ferguson able to play after having a year to learn the offense will help contribute. you never know, maybe our 3 freshman will be able to come in and provide some good bench points.

Evtimov
Bethel
Bennerman

maybe Brackman

Possible starting lineup of Atsur, Fells, Grant, Simmons, and ?

there were some ferguson highlight reels on here a while ago...kid can shoot and is pretty athletic and quick, good ball-handling skills, and a decent passer (at least on the high school level)

-brackman needs to gtfo and focus on baseball
-hopefully mccauley can continue to improve and become a good backup to ced
-hopefully ced can work on his offensive skills in general
-maturation of fells should help (if herb will play him for more than 7.5 minutes a game)
-grant's late-season play is a positive straw to grasp at as well
-atsur needs to take some steroids or something
-maybe larry davis can intimidate some refs for us

Best thing in this thread:

Quote :
"No matter what happens, there will be lots of bitching."

Also, why do you all think we will be worse???

It is CLEAR that we will prolly be better out without Evtimov, they score on him at will and lost his outside shot. Bethel disappears in Big games and is very streaky.

The real loss is Cam, who stepped up this year and almost won several games by himself.

V My bad dude. I was just repeating your quote. Then addressing the thread

Huh? I wasn't implying anything about how I think the team will be next year (I think they'll be good, for the record). I'm just saying that a significant element of our fanbase will complain regardless of how the season goes.

i couldn't agree more. when we loosened up today (towards end of first half), i noticed the same thing: very effective offensive production.

We won't be better, but we still have some good young talent and can build off this year.

grant-I think we all saw his offense abilities these last 6 games. You think we played poorly the last 6 games...imagine if Grant hadn't exploded for >20 points in most of them. Along with Ced, he'll be an offensive leader.

Best case: He continues to lead the team in scoring and helping out on the boards...his slices towards the basket opens things up for everyone else on the court.
Worst case: He reverts back to his early 2006 form and in addition to low scoring, he turns the ball over every three possessions.

Atsur-replacement for Bethel in bringing the ball up the court.

Best case scenario:he gets his shot back, stops shooting on the run, and becomes a good spot up 3 point shooter for us.
Worst case scenario:he continues to be invisible offensively besides handling the ball and dishing out assists.

Fells- Showed potential and great intensity in limited minutes this year. May be a defensive liability, but has excellent potential and athleticism. Replacement for Cam.

McCauley-Should become a solid backup for Simmons or a replacement for Brackman. Should help us on the boards and may actually learn to finish inside and become a scoring threat. Lot of "shoulds".

Simmons-One of the biggest keys to our potential next year. I look for us to dish the ball inside to Ced even more next year, and our success greatly depends on his growth/continued success.

Brackman-Best case: We get the old(freshman year) brackman. Worst case: Which is worse? He doesn't come back or he comes back, but gets even worse and makes a negative impact.

Ferguson-?

Costner-?

Other freshmen-?

With Fells, Grant, Simmons, Costner, and the lack of an Evtimov, we should have the most athletic team in a long while for State. Experience is a problem, but these young players will have 1-2 years under their belt. Best Case Scenario: Simmons is a beast and carries this team. Grant becomes what we've all hoped for: Mini-Hodge. Costner proves that he's the best freshman out of a solid class from last year. Fells improves and actually plays an entire game. Worst Case Scenario:Turnovers and bad defense kills this team. We finish in bottom half of another down ACC year. Herb gets fired.

atsur is going to be the team leader next year.

grant will need to step up and fill the bennerman role. we will need him to create scoring oppurtunities with his driving skills.

simmons will hopefully learn how to score in the post w/out having to dribble and pivot away from the basket. if he could just turn towards the basket he could score every time.

costner is going to be good. period.

fells has shown flashes of brilliance in his brief playing time, he has a lot of potential. it seems like he needs to work on his defense though. he makes good blocks and steals/deflections, but he also loses his man a lot. his guy seemed to get away from him and hit an open 3 a few times yesterday. perhaps this is why he didn't get much playing time this year (just speculating).

i think that's your starting 5 right there.

off the bench:

ferguson, could be a good point guard. i've heard that he is lighting it up in practice, so he could be a very nice addition to this squad.

mccauley has good moves in the low post. he needs to work on making space for himself and creating room for teammates to feed him the ball. he can't leap 10 feet in the air to catch passes like ced does, so he needs to find another way to create some space. once he gets the ball in the post, being a little more agressive couldn't hurt.

the freshmen:

these guys are going to be the difference between a good team and a great team for us next year. if they can step up and provide some solid minutes (ie freshmen last year rather than freshmen this year), then we will be better next year than we were this year. if none of the freshmen are able to contribute, then we will struggle to make the tournament as a bubble team.

really i think we need just one of the freshmen to step up and be a big part of the team. that would give us a solid 8-man rotation and should be enough for us to improve on this year.

Atsur makes horrible decisions. Constantly. Consistently. Bad decisions.

He's absolutely useless to the team if his shooting goes cold(which he frequently does).

Also, he can't finish his layups(as a general rule, violated in streaks).
