I've searched for comments about this place but can't find any so far. It's owned and operated by NCSU, and I was wondering if anyone knows how good of a place it is. I've heard they have a real problem with bugs and the utility bills are pretty bad.

all i know is that the complex is older, but was only bought by NCSU last summer. I haven't talked to anyone who lives there, but in talking to the people who run it, they're refurbishing all of the apartments as the old tenants move out and NCSU people move in. could be good/bad

I am somewhat familiar with them, living beside them. The utility bills are really high (expect 200/m in the winter), & bugs are somewhat a problem. And yes, it was just bought last spring, but from what I've seen, the only difference is that now they are trying to look like dorms with the so called refurbishing. And they have tons of housing employees sitting around wasting money. The former management company was pretty good, but I wouldn't trust University Housing with anything.[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 10:40 PM. i lived there from ~98-2000. at the time it was an awesome place to live. super cheap, close enough to walk to school, and right on the wolf line. it was about 50/50 foriegn families and students. i can't speak on the recent develpments. i didn't know ncsu was running it now. . . interesting. the old management when i was there was reasonable and would always work with you. one of the few places that understood i was a student on a limited budget. never felt like they were constantly trying to squeeze more money out of me.

I'm over in Champion Ct. They've very similar (used to all be owned and managed by the same company, iirc). Ditto on the high energy bills.[Edited on March 18, 2006 at 9:46 PM. Reason : and I'm glad NCSU didn't buy our apartments]

Housing is reorganizing their management structure, and come June there will be a completely new management team for Western Manor. There is currently a project going on to access the needed upgrades, and there will be changes.Any suggestions you all have as to what would make it a better place woudl be welcome, and probably used.

yea, so i moved in around the middle of december...no bugs at all. one bedroom apts. are pretty big. i like it so far. and yes, a lot of the tenants are foreign familys/ncsu staff. i have nothing to complain about yet. my utility bills aren't that bad either.

I've been living here since 2002...yes there have been bug problems, plus a lot of maintenance issues (bathtub not draining, toilet not flushing, electricity problems, heater not working, water heater leaking) but I guess its because these are old apartments (built in 60's). The older staff, when privately owned, were very good, the new staff (NCSU) is just ok. The rent is not bad and the utility bills do tend to get high in the winter. Most of the people here are staff/graduate students/families so it tend to be quiet. All together not a bad place to live. I have to move out in the summer when my lease expires since I'm not in school anymore.
