and i walked through midcourt of one of the courts downstairs to leave b/c there were halfcourt games going on either side of the court and on one side there is brandon costner and ben mccauley playing one on one and on the other side it is gavin grant playing 2 on 1 (i am assuming it was 2 of his friends). grant and his two friends were constantly arguing about calls b/c they didn't want to lose to him 2 on 1 and they were fouling him pretty hard (he hit the floor hard twice) and mccauley just as i left tweaked his ankle when he came down on costner's foot (he immediately walked it off though and went back to playing)i would have thought that herb would have had rules against this esp. during tournament week. costner is a red-shirt so it might not apply to him but mccauley logs minutes and grant either starts or plays a starters amount of minutes. i thought that this was a little strange.

OMG PRACTICING!!! THAT'S NOT ALLOWED!!!
3/14/2006 11:44:26 AM
the program is out of control
3/14/2006 11:45:01 AM
I would assume playing basketball isnt against the rules for basketball players. expecially if they're playing against other basketball players. I dont doubt the trainers are available whenever needed for them. I know a lot of other sports are banned. For the semi pro baseball team I played with you were asked to not come back if you hurt yourself playing another sport (ie pickup basketball, skiing etc) Especially basketball :x so many people turn ankles and the like

pretty sure 2 on 1 in a pick up game wouldn't qualify as "practicing." however, players are usually free to play whatever bball games they want. i'm sure caution is stressed though
3/14/2006 11:46:03 AM
practicing against a zone !?
3/14/2006 11:46:41 AM
i was just wondering moreso this week than other weeks obviously b/c it is tournament weekif gavin had sprained his ankle really bad last night or something that would have sucked for herb to have to tell everyone why gavin couldn't play"gavin is unavailable for the tournament b/c he sprained his ankle playing pick up basketball with two of his buddies"
3/14/2006 11:49:50 AM
that would have been herb's fault though, i'm sure. everyone would be callin for his head even more.
3/14/2006 11:52:12 AM
true but then "Gavin sprained his ankle in practice" would be just as unfortunate and never the less still herb's fault
3/14/2006 11:54:48 AM
by the way, Costner looked nasty. Obviously him and McCauley weren't going balls to the wall or anything but he made a ton of fade away jumpers/3's w/ a hand in his face and had a couple of pretty sick dunks as welli think he could have been very big for us this year and could be huge next yearremember, all through the summer and fall herb had him figured into his rotation; the 21-5 start was w/o a player that herb figured would log significant minutes (at least 15 a game i would assume); that doesn't excuse or little slump here but still no one really remembers that and gives the coaching staff the credit due there i believe
3/14/2006 11:59:21 AM
i would hope a McD's AA would get 15 minutes per game(as long as he wasn't a defensive liability)
3/14/2006 12:01:44 PM
cough scooter cough
3/14/2006 12:02:25 PM
coughthat's why i tossed the defensive liability line in therecough
3/14/2006 12:03:26 PM
I was just clearing things up for the slower folk :x
3/14/2006 12:04:07 PM
"i would hope a McD's AA would get 15 minutes per game"i just said 15 b/c we had everyone coming back
3/14/2006 12:10:26 PM
and I just said what I said because I was agreeing with you
3/14/2006 12:11:33 PM
3/14/2006 12:21:08 PM
he was dressed out for probably the last 7 or 8 gamesthe word on redshirting comes after the tournaments are over
3/14/2006 12:29:58 PM
but he played, so how could he be redshirted?
3/14/2006 12:39:28 PM
i can't remember the rulesomething about less than 25% of the games playedthey have to appeal to the NCAA anyways. it's not an NC State decision at this point
3/14/2006 12:41:42 PM
medical redshirt...but that might not be granted by NC2A
3/14/2006 12:42:21 PM
Colmer got it in football and he played some that season before the crazy nerve injuryhell they gave him a 6th year of eligibility that seasonthe NCAA should grant it for Costner
3/14/2006 12:45:07 PM
oh yeah, forgot about those
3/14/2006 12:53:31 PM
FWIW, when Rivers played IM basketball, Amato wouldn't let him play in the low post on either side of the ball.
3/14/2006 1:36:11 PM
3/14/2006 1:40:00 PM
hahaGavin needs all the fucking practice he can get. I'm sure his two buddies arent NCAA caliber players, but if he's going 2 on 1, i'm sure that helps. His game has gotten a lot better recently, maybe he's been practicing like this now for a while. And....I hope you're joking about Costner looking nasty. Cause if he looks nasty right now, then I'm pissed that he isnt playing. If playing him for the last 7 or 8 games of the season meant the difference between long tournament runs and a collapse, I'll take one great season over his one more year of eligibility. We had a chance to be great this year, who fucking knows if we will ever do it again.
3/14/2006 2:00:03 PM
TA really did sprain his ankle playing ping pong, fyi
3/14/2006 2:13:37 PM
i hope they dont fix gavins nosehe has been playing with a new found confidence latelyi just wish the rest of the team would play like that. I dont like having to associate gavin playing well with the rest of the team sucking it up and losing
3/14/2006 2:17:29 PM
3/14/2006 3:01:07 PM
I just meant that he did look good shooting the basketball and posting up. Obviously like I said he and McCauley weren't playing hard but he still looked pretty polished on offense and was shooting the ball really well.
3/14/2006 3:45:14 PM
3/14/2006 3:48:42 PM
you should have told them to keep chopping wood out there
