I bought a 64MB SD memory card for my Canon Elph SD400 digital camera at a specialty store in the Orlando airport before my trip... and yes, grossly overpaid Here's what happened with it though:1) Took about 10 pictures yesterday with no problem, looked through them a once or twice.2) <Here's where the problems begin> I look through the picture and 1 says "corrupted data" and only showed a smaller thumbnail of the original pic.3) Next time it's turned on it says "No pictures". (Now they've all disappeared) So I decided to leave it alone.4) Turn it back on a while later and now it says "Memory Card Error"What's goin on? So I put it in my computer thinking my camera may have just been having a problem and my computer said that the card is unformatted and formatting it will erase all data. The card was working fine the first few times I used it (ie: when I took those first 10 pictures or so). Any suggestions? Does anyone know if those pictures I took would still be there somewhere? And yes, I'm going to call the store and ask for a refund because of defective merchandise.Just wanted to see if anyone else has ever had a problem with a memory card not working right after purchase.

I've heard of this with some brands. Don't recall the solution to your dilemma. This is why it pays to research brands before you get them, though I realize it was a spur of the moment purchase.

1) people still buy 64mb memory cards? go to newegg.com and order one from there. I just ordered a 2GB memory card for my Elph from there for $60.2) when the pc says to format, have you tried formatting it? Normally when the camera says memory card error the thing is screwed. and yeah, take it back rather and get your $ back rahter than having to deal with warranties + shipping (you'll have to pay) etc. dont mention the thing worked for 10 pictures, just way it was bad from the beginning.

My guess is (and I don't knkow crap about memory cards but...) that the card needed to be formatted before you used it for the first time. You may have been able to take pictures, but they weren't being saved. And yes, try the software/card on another computer first.

No, that wouldn't cause it to just die like that. Are you sure that it was actually new? That sounds kind of like it was already old and somewhat used, and finally decided to die.

Yeah, bought it at a wireless accessory store, took it out of the plastic, popped it in my camera. It was just a shitty situation all together. The store wants to exchange it and I'm not settling for that - I just want my money back now.[Edited on March 13, 2006 at 11:07 PM. Reason : NOT settling]
