being a student and a dependent pretty much disqualifies you from any govt aid

Most states will also yank unemployment if you take classes.

If you are claimed as a dependent for 2006, that limits several options. Best thing to do is go in-person to financial aid tomorrow morning. They can probably explain a number of options a lot better than most of us can.

Get a job and pay for health insurance on your own, it's only about $100 a month if you go with the school plan.

^^I know the school plan is not the greatest, but it covers you for major stuff and also allows you the satisfaction of knowing that you are not totally dependant on the government to take care of you.

My situation is weird too, and I can see the shitty side of the gov't funding through this. While I do get almost all financial aid paying for my school, I do not have insurance. My family "makes too much" for state help, but if my mom were to get just me covered through her work, she wouldn't even bring home $400 a month. My Dad is self employed and his insurance was lost a while back and now noone will take him since he is diabetic. I want them to still claim me so that they can get deductions or whatever, so I have no option for any insurance right now, or for the past 3 years. (Good thing I take care of myself and its free to see a doc on campus. I was blessed to have perfect teeth, but I do need 1 wisdom tooth removed.)

you do realize you can both get health insurance through NC State, and it runs about 250 bucks a year. Which is like 1/10th the price of even blue cross/blue shield.

And for parsonsb: GET A FUCKING JOB. There is no fucking way you can't be able to go to school, already be receiving financial aid, and not be able to swing a job while taking classes. Thousands of people, myself included, did it all the way through college.

You don't need welfare and I would smack you in person if you actually try to apply for it or medicaid. Quit being a leech.

^^The insurance through NCSU doesn't include dental, and thats really all I need. I work while going to school and I can afford all my medications and bills for exams.

Pretty sure one of the BCBS self-insured plans has a dental add-on. And even if one of them doesn't, there are always public clinics you can go to and pay on a sliding scale for something routine like that.

OP: you can't get welfare while as a full-time student and a dependent. If you are so concerned about health insurance, go get a PT job at starbucks.

this is to bethaleigh and all other users w/ out health insurance. Dental coverage for almost any plan is either additional or not covered at all.

As for only needing dental. You need to wake up. All it takes is one major incident and all that money that you're trying to save your parents goes out the window. I see you ski from your pics. Try blowing out your knee and find out how much it costs, or even minor stuff costs a fortune now a days.

If the NCSU plan is only $250 / yr. BUY IT.
