a. About how much space do you have (sq. footage and rooms, like # bathrooms, # bedrooms, living room Y/N, kitchen Y/N, stuff like that)
b. How many occupants (# of people)
c. Monthly rent ($$$)
d. Monthly utilities ($$$)

I'm trying to iron out logistics for next year, because I'm getting ready to move off campus.

I live in University Woods
a. about 1350 square feet (I'm guessing). 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, kitchen, living room, sun room, laundry room with W/D
b. 4 people
c. $265 a month individually
d. $24 a piece for basic tw cable and road runner. Between $15 and $25 for electricity a piece depending on the month.

Rent is going up to $310 for next year, so I'll probably be leaving this crap hole. We've had a bunch of maintenance issues with mold, leaking garbage disposal, and a broken heater for the the one cold week of this winter.

I'll give you all 3 instances that I've been in.

I. University Oaks. 8/99 to 7/01.
a. ~1200 sq. ft., 4 bedroom/4 bath, kitchen, living room, patio, stacked washer/dryer
b. 6 occupants 1st year, 5 occupants 2nd year
c. $1295/mo, varied by person depending on single or double room. Probably cheaper nowadays.
d. Don't remember.
Notes: It was decent when we lived there (first occupants after it was built), but was shoddily built and might be falling apart by now. Convenient location though and a good value for the money.

II. House on Dixie Trail. 8/01 to 7/04.
a. ~1400 sq. ft., 3/4 bedroom depending on configuration. 2.5 bath. Big eat-in kitchen, living room, laundry area with washer/dryer, den or dining room if you didn't use it as an extra bedroom, full (unfinished) attic.
b. 5 occupants 1st year, 4 occupants 2nd/3rd year
c. $1565/mo, again varied by occupancy and room size.
d. Digital Cable + roadrunner were ~100, split equally. Electric bill varied. Water was usually ~35/mo. Electric varied wildly between the seasons due to poor insulation.
Notes: Curiously built, but great location (1 block from east village), and I loved being in a detached house. A bit pricey for what it was, and maintenance tended to respond slowly (Wilson Properties). Not worth as much IMO since they cut down the 100+ year old oak on the property after the 1/2003 ice storm.

III. Cameron Village Condos II, 7/04 to present.
a. 566 sq. ft., 1 bedroom/1 bath, small kitchen, living room, stacked washer/dryer.
b. 1 person.
c. $495/mo.
d. ~100 for digital cable and roadrunner (this is what sucks when living alone), $42/mo for cell phone which I also use as my home phone, electric has been as low as $40 and as high as $105.

Notes: Great for one person, good location (just north of CV). It's small though, and I'm sick of not having a dishwasher.

a. About how much space do you have: 1 bed/1 bath, 720sq ft. have plenty of room for me, my dog, 2 cats, hamster, and fish. as well as outside storage. Living room is big, kitchen is adequate, i use the dining area as my "office" so i dont have a kitchen table, but i have bar stools
b. How many occupants: just me
c. Monthly rent: 509$
d. Monthly utilities: cable/internet/phone (have to have a local number for the alarm), and progress energy ~ 200$

I live in Gorman Crossings

a. sq footage = ??? 3 bedrooms, one master bedroom with full bathroom, and another full bathroom, kitchen, living room, family room... its pretty spacious for our needs
b. 3 people
c. $204.66 for rent (for me, i don't live in the master bedroom)
d. varies, but utilities plus rent equals out to under $300 a month every month. I've only paid over $300 once and that was because I was late for my rent check.

Renovated apts. which is a plus, but they're still old as shit. Bugs during the nicer weather which I can put up with but some people can't handle. Very close to the Wolfline stop on Gorman which is a plus, and not too far off from eateries, food lion, gas station, etc. Office staff are fucking retarded, good luck with that, but I haven't had any major problems. All in all I don't mind living here, and the cost is nearly unbeatable.

I live at Sumter Square. Its a nice place... kind of mix between family oriented and college students. Its been a good enough place to renew the lease a few times, but I'll be moving out in a few months and heading off to grad school.

Internet, water, and some other commidities are included in rent.

I specifically live in the 2 bedroom townhouse apartment layout... but there are 5 floor plan layouts, ranging from 700 to 1100 sq ft, so specific info on one would hardly cover it.

a. 960 Square feet, 2br/2ba (each attached to each bedroom), a decent sized kitchen, stacked washer/dryer unit that works fine, decent eating area, big living room, decent sized bedrooms, closets, and bathrooms.

c. $600 total ($300/person)
d. $107 cable w/ dvr, $38 water per two months ($19/month), electric bill averages out at about $80 a month

Ivy Commons. Nice place, safe neighborhood (assuming you don't leave your crap unlocked and in the open). I dig it, it's about a mile walk to class (20-25 minutes depending on the lights and how fast you walk uphill). Just down avent ferry rd on the west side.

I love in Sumter Square, the larger 2 bd townhouse

A. 1050sq ft, 2bd/1.5bath, living room, kitchen with eating area
B. 2 adults, 2 cats, and a dog
C. We got a special, its $639 total + 10 pet rent
D. ~100 for energy, 50 for TWC, we use cells for phone so that depends on the person. Internet is included in the complex.

Basiclly it averages to about 400 a month. I love it here, i've been here almost 4 years.

Do I need to worry about trash collection at all, or is that provided by Raleigh from taxes?

Trash collection is paid for by the property owner, through taxes. If you're in an apartment, you'll likely have community dumpsters, in a house you'll have curbside pickup. You're unlikely to have a water bill unless you're in a detached house, as most apartments cover water. Also, some older complexes cover hot and cold water b/c the buildings are equipped with boilers rather than individual water heaters. This is really, really nice because a)you almost never run out of hot water and b)you're not paying for the water heater in your electric or gas bill.

There are actually a couple of really old complexes (Shelton Arms comes to mind) that actually have steam heat, so you essentially don't have a heating bill. But those are few and far between.

I live in Auston Grove in NorthEast Raleigh.

d. $49 for cable and internet, $10 for trash, water and sewage, $35 for electric... so approx $100 a month

My apartment complex is not a "college" apartment.. even though its only 20 minutes from campus, all of my neighbors work full time. Many of them have kids ect.

Price is much more than the places listed above but since I graduated and have a job I prefer to pay the extra for living in a well kept, well managed, and quiet place.

a. 1400 sq feet , 3bd, 2 bath, w/d room that is also a pantry. Living room, kitchen, porch, 1 hallway. Big closets.

c. 918 total, divided roughly into 3rds (private bath pays more, smallest room pays less).
d. Power ranges between 90-150 depending on month. 100-110 (total obviously) is normal.
Phone - about $33
Internet - $45 no cable tv.
Water - $15 a month.

All said costs me about $400 all inclusive.
