I am having trouble with internet explorer. At first, when I would open up outlook express, the window would pop up saying that windows had experienced a problem, and the option of sending it or don't send it to Micorsoft came up, I didn't send it. I just downloaded thunderbird, case closed. Now some different windows online won't come up such as the sports illustrated website and now Reg and Rec closes when I go to the 4 tabs at the top like registration, financial, etc..that little "microsoft has encountered a problem" box comes up and closes outthe window. Anybody heard of this? Thanks.

UGH.This shit again.It's spyware.Download AdAware ( http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ ) and SpyBot S&D ( http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html ) and run them.And use a better browser (like FireFox) ... and be more careful.[Edited on March 6, 2006 at 2:00 PM. Reason : +]

"better" as in...."crashes when openning a measurable percentage of web pages"
3/6/2006 2:03:02 PM
^ wtfI've never had any problems with FireFox crashing on either the PC or the Mac. I don't know anyone else who has complained about that either.
3/6/2006 2:05:43 PM
it crashes on a few sites regularly with certain extensions installed
3/6/2006 2:12:09 PM
Ahh; I don't typically have any extensions loaded.
3/6/2006 2:24:58 PM
i have a few extensions installed and i've never had firefox crash on me, even with up to 25 tabs or so open.
3/6/2006 2:40:31 PM
The newest one seems to eat up some resources with more tabs open but I've never seen it straight up crash. Until I can find some mouse gestures for IE7 I'm not even considering going back.

i've actually had a lot of problems with firefox, i think it's an awesome product though, just needs some work
3/6/2006 3:18:58 PM
Tried running ad aware and Spybot, nothing...Any other suggestions, thanks...
3/6/2006 4:46:58 PM
you can try a repair install, pop your xp or 2000 cd in, restart, boot from cd, choose repair installation and it should fix the problem
3/6/2006 4:58:39 PM
^ in every case i have seen doing that fucks things up worse. Because the CD is older than the security updates it doesn't exactly work ...
3/6/2006 7:00:05 PM
why the fuck are you people still recommending Adaware and Spybot to people? They BLOW
3/6/2006 7:27:12 PM
what is your alternative suggestion tyler?
3/6/2006 7:42:38 PM
MSAntiSpyware
3/6/2006 7:48:07 PM
Firefox + Juniper Networks Terminal Server == crash.no extensions.
3/6/2006 7:53:56 PM
Actually now it's Windows Defender.http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspxAnd it is heads and shoulders better than any combination of the other free ones out there.
3/6/2006 7:56:19 PM
yeah firefox seems to crash a lot[Edited on March 6, 2006 at 7:57 PM. Reason : yeah i forgot the new name. i was in a hurry.]
3/6/2006 7:56:48 PM
If you can figure out a way to get Windows Defender on a USB stick ... I'll take it. Otherwise, I'm sticking with SpyBot to clean out people's computer on the fly.NCSUMEB, run HiJackThis and Google "HiJackThis Log Analyzer" ... copy/paste and tell us what is spots as bad.

I don't trust "Windows Defender."It tried to remove Timbuktu from one of our office machines because "this program can be used to take control of your computer."Well no fucking shit, that is why we bought it. It jsut seems like the normal Microsoft "remove the competition" BS.

Well I've installed several free anti-spyware programs ccleaner, Spybot, Adaware, and run the universities anti-virus protection program, etc. Anyone had experience with a paid program?
3/7/2006 6:47:53 PM
if I had timbuktu or some shit on my computer and didn't know about it, you can bet i'd want to.trust it or not, it does a better job than anything else freely available.
3/7/2006 7:00:50 PM
^^Webroot Spysweeper is the best single paid program, last time I checked. (fall 05)
3/7/2006 7:13:19 PM
I talked with someone from technical support from Webroot, they said my problem is not spyware, but that I should try reinstalling Internet explorer, has anyone done this, did you have any problems with reinstalling IE. I just don't want ot make my problem any worse, thanks......

A quick way to find out if it's IE is to install firefox or opera.if they work, then look into fixing the browser.
