Which one would you do? I am guessing when Vista comes out, 3GB would possbily be useful so thats why I am leaning towards the 2x2GB.Also OCZ or Gskillz?OCZ Gold PC4000 3-4-3-8Geil Ultra Platinum PC40002.5-4-4-7Currently running the OCZ at 240Mhz with my Opteron's HTT at 240 as well. When I get my Zalman, I will be pushing this up to at least 250. I know the OCZ will run at 265 with 3-4-3-8 at 2.8VThe Geil may run at 255 with 2-4-4-6 at 3.1VOpinons OCers?

Don't bother with weak overclocking.
3/4/2006 4:36:59 PM
Well I am going to push as far as I can keeping the HTT and Memory 1:1 and of course keeping the memory timings within reason.

Get two really nice gb sticks.Seems like the chance of a motherboard running all 4 stable would be rare anyways
3/4/2006 6:09:24 PM
^also, try overclocking not 1:1, people seem to have much better luck doing that. I'd go with the geil ram since it's got tighter times.
3/4/2006 6:33:37 PM
overclocking is SO kewl
3/6/2006 12:12:37 AM
^if you are poor
3/6/2006 1:09:49 AM
yea u definatly want to run as few sticks as possible. don't be afraid to drop the divider below 1:1 .it'll definatly help with the overclock my opty 144 is running at 2.9ghz(9x323) my ocz is only 3200 so my divider is set to 2:3 but it's worth it to sqeeze the most out of that opteron.

state, what's the maximum amount of memory the system can support / how many slots do you have for memory?
3/6/2006 6:09:40 AM
overclocking is stupid. these chips are rated at their frequency for a reason.
3/6/2006 9:03:22 AM
The board is an A8N SLI, which I believe is 4GB w/ 4 slots.By the way its an Opteron 170 Dual Core, so the highest OC I heard this chip run stable is about 2.9ish.^Yes OCing is stupid if you are obessed with it, I am simply getting the most out of my money. I know the Opteron Chip can do at least 2.5 and I really don't have to do anything special to get it.

what's the deal with video cards taking up addresses

I'm suprised the proc manufacturers dont push overclocking more often. I mean hell. If people overclock, they decrease the lifespan of the proc, thus have to purchase more.Seems like good business.
3/8/2006 12:04:11 PM
If you dont see the reason for business' not promoting product usage which can severely impact the life of their product you are a complete and utter fucking retard.
3/8/2006 12:32:12 PM
Exactly, I'm agreed with Quinn.Because people who make statements like you just did are the same kind of people that would run 50 Amps to their CPU and then go and try to return it manufacturer siting "quality issues".
3/8/2006 1:39:55 PM
yea over clcokcing isn't stupid, it's a trade off. amd rates their cpus for safty, they want thier products to be as realiable as possible(espcially the opterons since they are thier seerver chips) . i'd rather run my cpu faster than it's rated bc even if ocing it cut the life in half i ain't gonnna keep the cpu for 3 yrs. i 'm not running 50amps to my cpu i merely increased my voltage by .25 volts and upgraded the cooling to go from 18.ghz to 2.9ghz and for me it's worth it.

hmmm I'm looking to upgradesomeone suggest somethingI'm VERY interested in the price to performance ratio
3/8/2006 3:47:50 PM
at the very least post what mobo you have and what else you currrently have - so people can post what you should upgrade - they can't magically know what you have
