ANYONE HAD THIS DONE?? I HAVE HAD CONTACTS SINCE 7th GRADE AND I AM SICK OF THEM....MY EYES KEEP GETTING WORSE AND WORSE...I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS OF ANY SIDE EFFECTS FROM THIS SURGERY AND IF IT IS IN FACT PERMENANT?

you can get permanent halos from having it done.In the dark, light sources will have a halo around them. This is a common problem and often permanent. Though most people say they can live with it.

if your eyes keep getting worse and worse i dont think they do itthey want your prescription to be maintained for a few years or very slowly changing, least this is ideal case anyway[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 10:58 AM. Reason : ]

Here's a thread about it: http://brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=373956&page=1#8030124May have some useful information for you, it's pretty long and detailed.
3/2/2006 11:03:46 AM
you're interested enough in the surgery to seek out others opinions, but not to find out how to spell it?
3/2/2006 11:24:04 AM
have you considered or tried night & day contacts? i love not having to put them in and take them out every day and night. occasionally i'll have to put in a few drops but other than that i just change them every month. also..if your eyes keep getting worse and worse, lasic surgery isn't recommended. ok i just saw someone already said that.
3/2/2006 11:26:56 AM
i'm with you. my eye sight has been steady for many years though so i'm a good candidate. it will be the next big purchase i make for myself. oh to not have to rely on contacts or wear glasses when i take them out. it would be a dream come true. i've been wearing glasses or contacts since 3rd grade.
3/2/2006 11:29:31 AM
Glasses since 3rd grade, contacts since 4th. My eyes get -.25 worse every six months to a year. I am at -5.0 now. I won't ever get lasic, because my eyes keep getting worse. My mom had the surgery done. They surgery caused cataracts. She had surgery to fix that. Then had surgery again for the vision. She still has to wear reading glasses, and has problems judging depth. This was done at one of the most reccommended places in Charlotte.

yes i have, its awesome, if you want the name of a good doctor i can give it to youyour vision hasnt stablized yet???? wtf, my prescription hadnt changed in like 2 or 3 years before i got it donebut yea, the halo thing around lights kinda sucks, but its so worth ithttp://www.dukelasik.org/http://www.dukeeye.org/specialties/refractive/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lasik
3/2/2006 12:39:04 PM
APPROXIMATELY HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? I HEARD ABOUT 2K SOUNDS REASONABLE
3/2/2006 12:45:59 PM
how bad is your vision?mine was between 3500-4000, i believe
3/2/2006 12:57:05 PM
^I'M NOT SURE....I THINK MY LAST PERSCRIPTION CALLED FOR -45 FOR ONE EYE -55 FOR THE OTHER...WHATEVER THAT MEANS.....ALL I KNOW IS I CAN'T SEE SHIT WITHOUT CONTACTS
3/2/2006 1:37:21 PM
-45 in contact prescription? or -4.5 or something else?
3/2/2006 1:38:15 PM
-4.5 CONTACT PERSCRIPTION...I THINK
3/2/2006 1:39:24 PM
Nate, I had no idea you were so blind.Yeah I wanna get lasik surgery eventually as well. I'm so sick of glasses and contacts. My vision is like -4.5 and -6.5 I think. I also have astigmatism
3/2/2006 1:44:36 PM
^ Yeah, if mine would ever stop getting worse I'd do it too.-5.5 and -6.5 and that's a three year old prescription (havent had contacts for a while)
3/2/2006 1:47:52 PM
My father had lasic surgery done. His eyes were maybe 20/400, and he couldn't wear soft contact lenses. Now, his eyes are 90% perfect. During the day, they're 20/20, but for some reason in the evenings, he wears glasses to see clearly. I think when his body relaxes, his eyes go to 20/40 or something. He only gets a very minor halo effect.Considering what he started with and what he ended up with, he's extremely pleased with the lasic.
3/2/2006 2:14:49 PM
i have a -6.5 and a -7.0 in contacts. they won't let me do it right now and im 22 and i have had the same prescription for several several years. they said it is too risky and my coronea could be too thick. there are what they say "cowboy" lasik doctors that would do it for the money, but my doctor doesn't want me to even think about it until a few years. then he said we will possibly see.
3/2/2006 2:59:22 PM
i need new contacts mine are worn out lolimma get some when i get back to raleigh after spring break.
3/2/2006 3:44:13 PM
is it 3500-4500 total? how much is it per eye?
3/2/2006 4:20:28 PM
yea that was total, i dunno id guess each eye would be half that, lol
3/2/2006 7:03:23 PM
i paid $1500 per eye in 2002i'd imagine it would be at least somewhat cheaper than that now
3/2/2006 7:26:16 PM
i had it done i'm at 20/15 now but my vision was no where near as bad as anyone is listing here.....also no halo for me. I had this done about 3 yrs ago for reference.
3/2/2006 7:37:13 PM
My mom's was $1600 per eye.
3/2/2006 9:09:20 PM
glasses since hs? my eyes are still getting worse and worse. well, moreso on the astigmatism. I think i'm going to end up with a lazy eye hahah
3/2/2006 10:05:18 PM
sweet as a duke employee i get 700 off each eye, i thinkthe question still remains, what happens 20 years from now................i only have one set of eyeballs
3/2/2006 10:06:26 PM
I heard the Duke thing was like another fregin zero on the prices y'all have been quoting in this thread. I don't know that for sure though. But i have heard from other people who say they had it done for ~1700, although they say that is a bargin for the top of the line places. Duke is pretty much as good as you get too. I've searched but have had no luck on the internet in finding what prices the Duke place will give you.
3/2/2006 10:12:31 PM
theyll be the same
3/2/2006 10:56:54 PM
i got mine done at duke[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 10:59 PM. Reason : so $3500-4000]
3/2/2006 10:58:40 PM
^^^^yeah i think im going to do it in about 10 years so there will be enough time ill be 32 and it will have been around for about 25 years so that way if it does burn my eyes out ill be 57 and it wont matter
3/2/2006 11:08:41 PM
3/3/2006 1:38:34 AM
i never wore glasses, but i had PRK so i could be a military pilot (although they came back and said "just kidding about that whole switching you back to pilot thing" after i did it)it was about $3k or slightly more, it hurt like hell, and took months to fully recover, but i do see20/15 now with no ill effects (no halos or other problems of any kind).

Myopia correlates with IQ.
3/3/2006 3:42:58 AM
oh yea, and your eyes will be dry for ~6 monthsthe first week or two is the worst (eye drops every 15 min for me, but then i was staring at a computer screen all day)
