they arent

Northern Iowa is the only one worthy of an at-large. Wow if they get 5 and the ACC gets 4 some shit will hit the fan.
3/1/2006 9:58:31 PM
acc gets 5 at least
3/1/2006 9:58:58 PM
I just don't understand how Lunardi and others can strongly say that the MVC deserves 5-6 and the ACC deserves 4, maybe 5.

Yeah Northern Iowa has 3 good out of conference wins. LSU won the SEC regular season, Iowa is ranked, and Bucknell is a quality team.
3/1/2006 10:07:34 PM
N. Iowa is more deserving of a bid than quite a few major-conference teams. LSU and Iowa are both very, very good.I can see two justifiable at-large bids here...UNI, Creighton, or Wichita State (assuming one of them wins the conference tourney).
3/1/2006 10:31:42 PM
hopefully none of those teams win their conf tourney, so that conference will get even crazier

Missouri St is the best team in this conference IMO. Bradley is also very good and very hot right now, with big wins over So Ill and No. Iowa. It would be terrible if these two teams weren't in the field of 65. At least 5 of those 6 are going though. Don't forget Bradley beat N. Iowa twice.
3/1/2006 10:55:03 PM
With FSU's win over Dook, they are most likely in. They beat Miami this weekend, then they are 9-7 in conference and are the 5th ACC team. Honestly do you actually think the tourny committee is going to sit there and look through each of these team's resumes and pass up on teams like Indiana, FSU, Texas AM, etc. I really doubt it. I bet the MVC only gets 3.
3/1/2006 11:09:49 PM
The reason they are getting so much pub. is b/c of their RPI's (from ESPN.com Daily RPI)20. Missouri State25. Wichita State29. Northern Iowa31. Creighton41. Southern Illinois45. BradleyAs a reference, NC State has an RPI of 34. Teams with an RPI lower than 40 usually get in the tournament, so that would give the MVC 4 or 5 right there.
3/2/2006 7:59:22 AM
The point of this thread is that the RPIs are ARTIFICIALLY high. The conference office controls all scheduling for the conference in order to get the RPI up. Like I said, out of the six teams here, I think three might legitimately deserve to get bids.Do you really think that any of these teams (UNI aside) could beat FSU, Miami, UVA, VT...or hell, even Wake?If the 2nd/3rd best conference only gets four bids, no mid-major deserves six bids.
3/2/2006 9:34:36 AM
^ Wichita State could knock off those teams. I've seen them play regularly because I live in Kansas and they are a solid team. I do agree though that the other MVC teams, except maybe NIU, could not consistently beat teams like Miami, FSU, VT, Virginia, etc. They all are capable of a big upset, but talent wise they are not there yet. As for the RPI stuff. Yeah they have nice team RPIs, but the conference sits at #6 overall, just ahead of the Pac-10, while the ACC is at #3 (really should be #2 because ACC > Big 10). If the RPI is so important, then the ACC should get more teams than the MVC due to the overall conference ranking IMO.[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 9:55 AM. Reason : grammar ]

I like your input and I don't see them much except for those damn bracketbuster games on ESPN, but there is nothing anyone could say to make me believe that Wich. State, Mizzou State, etc would beat FSU, Maryland, Miami, Clemson, VT, UVA, GT, and Wake. I may have stretched it with the last few, but I don't even see them beating our worst teams too many times.
3/2/2006 10:45:43 AM
Their RPI is high because of the one win someone had over Iowa and LSU. They beat nobody outside of the league except for a couple here and there. Their RPI builds on those games and then builds on beating up on each other inside the conference.
3/2/2006 10:47:35 AM
Let's take a look at it this way:Wake is the worst team in the ACC. And yet, they beat Wisconsin and Charlotte (maybe 2nd best in the A10).Something tells me Wake could overpower most of the teams in the MVC.So I still don't believe any of the mid-majors deserve six bids...
