My computer is crapping out and I have projects and I'm really pissed off. I'd like to reinstall windows but I'm having problems with that too. Kinda wanna chunk the desktop out the window right now. Anywho, I downloaded windows xp pro from the wolf tech site and then saved it to a disc. Says it's 588mb. I rebooted the comp with the disc in the cd drive and then went to setup. Went to "boot" and put it as one of the cd drives. Now a screen comes up that says to put media in and then press any key...so obviously it's not recognizing the disc. I've tried every boot option they give you and nothing has work. Help pleeeease?

it will tell you to press any key to boot from the CDbut if you're not talking about that then you probably burned it to disk wrong

Did it download as an ISO file? you can't just drag and drop those to burn them to disc.

I think there might be something about "make it bootable" when you burn. I dunno, it's been a while and I've never played with the stuff from the wolf tech site.

^^I think it did d/l as an ISO, that was the file type that showed up on the desktop.

Yeah, you need to use a program that will let you burn an image to disc. I only ever use nero, but I'm sure roxio or whatever will let you do that. I don't THINK windows will do it without help though, I may be wrong.

^I'm burning it now with the program I normally use to burn data cds, so here's hoping.

^ if that doesn't work. Try http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php Just burn the image onto the disk, reboot, hit a key when it says "Press any key to boot from CD" or something like that.[Edited on February 28, 2006 at 10:52 PM. Reason : ]

^The free trial of Nero expired in Decemeber, so I'm trying alcohol this time around.

So, if you don't have a program that allows you to "burn iso to disk" or "write iso to disk", etc....go here: http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ and download cdburnerxp. It is free, and it will do all the basics and then some. Burn the iso to disk by selecting, and then restart the computer with it in the drive. This program also does .nrg to .iso conversion, supports overburning, can turn mp3 files into CD audio, most of the basic stuff that you'll need. How to burn iso to disk with this program:1. Select the first option upon starting up burnerXp.2. "file"-->"write disk from iso file"3. Browse for image.4. Burn, baby, burn!Make sure that you choose the correct burner speed, as I've heard that it doesn't always detect burner speeds accurately.

Er, are you looking for assistance with reinstalling windows, or with burning the installation CD? Thread title is a bit misleading.

^^Well, I thought it was with windows, but turned out that wasn't working because the cd was burned incorrectly. Sorry. It's all straightened out now I believe.

Ehh, seems like something always has to go wrong. Downloaded it jsut like I was supposed to and the disk works now, but it says I need the 32 bit program and what I'm trying to load is the 64 bit. >.< Any suggestions?
