got cited tonight for rolling through a stop sign. cop said he wrote it up as a city code violation instead of a ticket so no insurance points. there's no fine listed on the back, just court costs. any long-term repercussions to just paying the 110 bucks and being done with it?

well, i did stop. it was just dark and no one was at the intersection, so i didn't stop the car to 0 mph, just 2 or so. what pisses me off is that the car in front of me barely stopped when he made a right hand turn.

don't get mad because you fucked up.

none of us are perfect, doesn't justify the fact that you fucked up.

I tried that.

People drive really agressively behind you when you do silly things like obey traffic laws.

city code violation is the rough equivalent of really expensive parking ticket.

just give them the money and everyone will call it a day.

Sounds right.

You've got a point, except that in this case, he can just mail in the fine and get completely out of going downtown to deal with it.

yeah but hes still paying the court costs.

i would go down there and waste every bit of their time that i could. tie up the officer for an afternoon, tie up an ADA for an afternoon, use their jury time. but i guess im the only one that does that

or the only one who has time for it.

I'd love to give them a hard time, but it isn't worth my time, imo

But are you really wasting their time if they get paid for it? It isn't like you are showing up 15 minutes before quitting time and making them stay an hour over.

Like not getting tickets for violating a law? I mean he admitted that he didn't stop all the way, and that's what he's supposed to do. Sure the cop might have been an asshole to write him the ticket but he was still wrong one way or the other.

Do you know what the definition of STOPPING is? B/c clearly from that statement you don't.

I got a ticket a few weeks ago for the exact same thing. You can just get a certified check and send it in with the ticket, and thats the end of it.

I was annoyed that I got a ticket for something that really didn't harm anything, but I can't really argue anything since I didn't completely stop, just close to it.

The way police judge if you have stopped or not is if the back of your vehicle drops down from the action of having stopped. So I go as soon as i feel the car settle back, and never gotten any tickets.

yes, if everyone contested their tickets in court, the system would shit itself

my friend got a city code violation for a 41 in a 25 on dixie. but school was on a teacher workday, and was not in session so it was a 35. but apparently the cop didn't realize school wasn't in session and neither did she at the time. so effectively, she got a ticket for a 41 in a 35, any suggestion on what she should do?
