Does this web hosting company control your domain name, also?

sign up for the new hosting company first not using a domain - so they'll give you an ugly address like http://server1.newhost.com/~zip/mirror your files and DBs - a lot of smaller hosting companies will port your older setup to their system if you give them your login info to the other host.once you're all set up with the files and DBs on your new server, initiate the domain transfer through them so that way you won't have any downtime with your site.---------------------nvm i saw what you wanted. your question is really vague - you'll just need access to the e-mail address on the WHOIS technical record of your registration. nothing else vital.

ah ok, thanks --sorry about being vague, i don't quite have a full grasp of everything.but i think i see what you are saying. most companies wouldn't give any sort of refund for unused hosting, right? i suppose that's a silly question.i'll inquire about the porting to the new setup. that should be fairly simple for them to do?thanks!-ZiP!-

one other question: does my current company OWN my domain name? (since i signed up for it through them?) does that make the transfer even tougher?-ZiP!-

Try hosting with AIT (Advanced Internet Technologies). They're based out of Fayetteville, NC. Close enough to Raleigh that if there's ever a problem (shouldn't be) that you can just drive on down and annoy the crap outta them.http://www.ait.com[Edited on February 26, 2006 at 12:09 AM.
