I'm contemplating moving my tire to the roof and using the space for a subwoofer enclosure. Why is this a bad idea?
2/23/2006 11:40:42 AM
wind resistance, if you care. The sun will bake the sidewall of that tire if you leave it uncovered.
2/23/2006 11:42:11 AM
ummmm
2/23/2006 11:42:14 AM
more weight on top to help you rolloversun damage to tiregas mileage
2/23/2006 11:51:47 AM
it makes you look like a fratastic mofo too
2/23/2006 12:00:53 PM
what kind of car? [Edited on February 23, 2006 at 12:02 PM. Reason : cars with no spare tire come with fix-a-flat cans, I think]
2/23/2006 12:01:47 PM
spare tires are for wusses, just get a plug kit and a 12v air pump
2/23/2006 12:14:36 PM
Grand Cherokee...yea, I have contemplated the plug route and 12v kit, I guess that is a fairly viable option.
2/23/2006 12:53:13 PM
it'll be super cool. get a rack and mount some hellas on it to match. more points if you mount a high lift and multi tool on the sides.
2/23/2006 12:55:35 PM
if you already have the roof rack I say go ahead. You are already half way to the
2/23/2006 12:56:36 PM
This has nothing to do with being fratastic at all. My jeep is plain jane except a bike rack. It has everything to do with functionality.
2/23/2006 1:07:38 PM
go for it..your coefficient of drag probably can't get any worse
2/23/2006 1:28:40 PM
just get AAA and get rid of your spare all together
2/23/2006 1:32:41 PM
functionality? you'll be reducing functionality in a number of areas if that's the way you want to look at it. if you want to keep/increase functionality while freeing up interior space, get a swing out tire carrier on the back.
2/23/2006 1:38:02 PM
build a box that doesn't move the spare tire. that trunk should be plenty large. how many subs, etc do you plan to have?
2/23/2006 1:38:29 PM
^^^ I knew a guy with a Miata who ditched the spare for extra trunck space. He figured if slime and a compressor don't solve the problem, he'll call AAA.

you realize you can get racks that mount on spare tires and in receiver hitches...
2/23/2006 2:51:07 PM
Cherokees are too damn small, you need a larger station wagon.
2/23/2006 3:00:59 PM
Shit I don't drive with my spare because it rattles around inside its little home in the 3rd door.
2/23/2006 3:03:47 PM
Dude you fucked up.... put the bike rack on the roof and your tire behind the car... its the best way to go... cause your bike won't be up there often and my friends who roofafied their tires lost 2-3 mpg highway and thats alot to lose on a day to day basis. and i'd only put your spare outside if its non-stock otherwise leave it where it came. dumbasses with a 225-65-r16 on the back/roof of their cars just look fucking retarded.

2/24/2006 2:54:21 PM
fix a flat is dangerous, useless shit. get a plug kit if anything. you'll still be vulnerable to sidewall tears and bigger gashes though. i sure wouldn't do it if you travel at all.
2/24/2006 3:28:03 PM
i dont know where to start in this thread, wowtires should always be mounted by professionals, and then properly balanced. preferably in a garage, not on the roof.
2/24/2006 4:55:48 PM
Bike rack is no reason not to get the swing away tire carrier. Just get a rack for your trailer hitch or a rack that hooks onto the spare tire itself. Pretty much all the major manufacturers make them.
2/24/2006 5:46:41 PM
I did a pretty thourough search for a swing away tire carrier for a WJ and the only one I could really find was completely replacing the the rear bumper with a steel one that had the swing away integrated into it.
2/24/2006 5:55:38 PM
once again, how many/what size subs do you want? that is the whole reason you're contemplating moving the spare. my sister has a 99 wj w/ 2 12" JL w3s, and she still has her spare tire in the back. so, if you don't want some fancy fiberglass enclosure that takes up your whole trunk i see no need to move the spare tire. keep it simple. then you can have your bike rack on the back and get the same gas mileage hopefully
2/24/2006 6:35:19 PM
idea: quit being a faggot about your bikes and tires on the roof and shit, bikes up there are better than a tire then atleast you won't get hazed as much by people....a tire up there can eventually cause the roof to leak [/thread]
2/25/2006 1:29:58 AM
SOLUTION: quit riding a bike like a fag
2/27/2006 3:20:06 PM
2/27/2006 3:46:44 PM
just get a sub as big as the tire
2/27/2006 3:53:04 PM
^^ i gotcha. if u do the stealthbox i have a buddy that has a 10" W3 he's not using. brand new if you wanted it i could give him a call
2/27/2006 4:20:07 PM
if the need is only for trips, what about one of those cargo carriers that mount to the roof rack. or a rack that mounts in the hitch, those are perfect for coolers, etc.[Edited on February 27, 2006 at 6:57 PM. Reason : .]
2/27/2006 6:56:58 PM
i say keep the spare indoors and put the sub on the roof
