help me techy's. what's a good way to answer this question or what would you do, etc?


Hardware Scenario: (Please advise your professional opinion)
Please review and advise if you have the ability to perform this task and give estimated number of hour’s needed to complete.
Scope:
HP unit came to customer site in pieces instead of them being installed. We need to have these components installed into the server case and then tested to make sure it works and any patch updates too. These are the parts that need to be config..

Try contacting HP and ensure that installation onsite will not void any kind warranty. If they say "nah, go ahead and throw that shit in", then start to install things one at a time.

How much downtime can this server have? A network admin shouldn't have any issue installing this stuff in in a matter or a couple hours. Maybe a day if the active directory has to be populated and server OS has to be installed.

The only thing I see that's strange is the RAM. 6gbs?

I assume this is a windows box. Just have the raid drivers handy when Windows asks for SCSI/RAID drivers during installation.

I'm with GraniteBalls ... do you just need it physically assembled and put into the server rack? What about power management? What about operating system installation? What about ... (list continues)?

There are a lot of questions here.



If you're the guy that's doing this install, I'd seriously reconsider. You really don't want your first server setup to be for a paying client.

i was hoping TDUB can save the day for me and the client. the only thing I know from HP is HP Openview . . .

My few dealing with HP business support have generally been positive.

I would trying communicating between your client, you and HP before showing up to do the job. Pre-Consultation ... maybe?
