Hey all:If you haven't seen it already, make sure you give feedback on redesigning the NC State website.http://www.ncsu.edu/news/web_redesign.htm. I'm posting this here vs. Tech Talk because the most important part of any web design is making a site that meets the needs of the USERS- you- the students, faculty, visitors, etc. BUT ESPECIALLY THE STUDENTS So share your thoughts so that you can have a website that is pleasing, easy to read and incredibly useful. You might even win some tickets to the ACC tournament. [Edited on February 22, 2006 at 6:11 AM. Reason : verb][Edited on February 22, 2006 at 6:13 AM. Reason : .]

The entire PPR website needs to be esthetically redesigned. It makes hard for reading right now - need to make webpages more narrow, change the font (garamond please! ), and use better color scheme/shading to make it easier on the eyes.http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/homepage.php

For me, the garamond font is really easy to read on the web, but I understand that the university has to cater to 1000s of people. I  the garamond font. I have it in my email, default (no style) webpage font, MS Word, etc. etc. You all should consider it though - just mock up a webpage with the font, and see what happens .

Virginia Tech is doing a complete overhaul or their website as well. I swear you can't tell these two apart sometimes...I know the highly visible/highly visited areas will be the first to be redone. When will this start coming down to the departmental level?

i filled out the survey, and actually took some time to answer (honestly). I wish y'all luck, and hope you make some big improvements. I actually know one of the students on the committee, so that's cool.

How about replacing any black text on white backgrounds with white/ light gray text on a black background. I can't understand why people still insist on white backgrounds.

College of Management paid a fortune to have their page redesigned and it's much worse now in my opinion...

MARKO IS GOING TO HAVE ALL THE ADVISERS IN LOVE WITH HIM!!! The PRR site is awful. It is not the same project as the NC State website, so I am glad to know someone is making it actually readable. The only way I use it is either a) search function or b (more often), I take advisers to this old page and basically use it like a table of contents to get them to what they need. http://www.ncsu.edu/provost/academic_regulations/index.htmlMost advisers are not going to take (waste) the time to mess with that bloody PRR site the way it is now.

i'm surprised they're doing this again so soon

Becaue many sites are inaccessible, and others are old. Once they get old, the get cluttered (like many of our second level pages) and navigation gets messed up. I agree, the look should stay clean and open and brief, but it is time for some improvements. We are beginning to work on a redesign of Advising Central for the very same reason- make it easier to use.
