...but I still prefer to use a spray gun. I'm lazy like that. You gotta go about halfway down to get to it.http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2331682&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1

2/21/2006 11:57:02 PM

2/22/2006 2:43:43 AM
only after '94 was awd standard. it was an option on some '93 and earliersi had a 2wd '93 impreza.
2/22/2006 3:37:00 AM

What you should have done with the Cuntless, Joel.
2/22/2006 2:26:43 PM
I'm gonna try this tomorrow on something, some piece of scrap. Seriously, I gotta know if this works, I wouldn't be surprised if this fucktard is just scheming, "ooh, I'm gonna get'em good, they'll be painting their cars with ROLLERS. muahahaha." I'll take pics to show the mess I made. Any suggestions? piece of aluminum? should I go get something from dillon? pipe/sheet from a hardware store?
2/25/2006 2:55:37 AM
You need to get you an old fender to practice on. Remember to thin the paint very well...and I would use regular mineral spirits (stoddard solvent); the drying rate is pretty slow, which will help with the leveling of the finish.
2/25/2006 3:07:42 AM
^I have a gauge cluster from a '57 or '58 chevy that I bought a while back just because I thought it looked cool that I'd like to paint. Think that'll work?
2/25/2006 3:12:47 AM
hmm... looking at it again, I don't think it'd be really representative... there's no way I'd get a 4 in roller on most of the contours of this thing, it's just too tiny. Anyone have an old fender? lol, optmus, if you still had that volvo, I might actually have bought it now that I've got some $ in the bank. income is fun.
2/25/2006 3:41:58 AM
i have two fenders off a mazda b-series.
2/25/2006 8:45:18 AM
want anything for 'em? Or could I take 'em off your hands?
2/25/2006 12:37:52 PM
i might have a boat that needs paint soon
2/25/2006 12:44:34 PM
allright, I'm taking a shower. If any of you gimme an option for when I get back, I'll look into it. Otw, I'm heading to home depot to buy a sheet of something to try this on...
2/25/2006 12:56:15 PM
go to your local body shop and ask for a beat up fender or something
2/25/2006 1:02:21 PM
gimmie like 20 bucks and you can have both my fenders. i think there's like two dents total on the two fenders. just need some paint
2/25/2006 1:38:43 PM
here's the pics of the mess:I thought I used plenty of mineral spirits, it was pretty thin, but it came out pretty bumpy looking. When I try again later on the other side, I'll thin it more.[Edited on February 25, 2006 at 6:05 PM. Reason : .]
2/25/2006 6:04:31 PM
hey, some ppl pay top $ for that ripple effect.
2/25/2006 6:32:01 PM
^^did you even sand it?
2/25/2006 6:43:47 PM
You'll probably need to mix it at least 50/50 with possibly even more mineral spirits.
2/25/2006 6:49:36 PM
^^I've only put on the first coat, when it's drier, I'll sand and do the next.ok, well, it looks better, less bumpy, this pic my gf took doesn't show it very well....[Edited on February 25, 2006 at 11:19 PM. Reason : .]

3/1/2006 10:32:38 PM
Back before WWII, it wasn't uncommon to paint cars with mits (no kidding -- my dad did it once). Not sure what the effect would have been though http://www.mindspring.com/~bozarth

tremclad = rustoleum ??
3/1/2006 11:00:29 PM
yes, it was either discussed in thread that was linked, or from a link in that thread. basically tremclad is the canadian name for rustoleum.

yeah, I used rustoleum royal red. gorgeous color, somewhere between a light cranberry and the blood red BMW used to put on the M roadster, but I definitely needed more mineral spirits, and I also want to see how much sanding it can help. I didn't get a chance to try that before I skipped town. I thought I poured a lot of mineral spirits in, but come to think of it, it probably wasn't anywhere near 50%. It definitely did lay down more evenly from the bumpy first appearance a ton after a night's drying, and everything I used is in raleigh right now, so I probably won't take another crack at it for another week at least (I'm working in VA), but it definitely needed more mineral spirits, it was still too bumpy by far...
3/2/2006 1:16:08 AM
well shit, i already got red rustoleum on my car
3/2/2006 1:38:27 AM
I might try this as well over spring break
3/2/2006 2:03:20 AM
yeah it can stain concrete too, i couldnt pressure wash it all off
3/2/2006 2:09:49 AM
^maybe this was a mistake, but I just used mineral spirits on a paper towel to clean up the enamel... I didn't really pay attention to whether I messed up the garage floor or not... guess I'll know when I get home...
