2/17/2006 10:03:06 AM
does that dude on the far right play for the tatars?
2/17/2006 10:07:09 AM
motherfucker looks like a tatar
2/17/2006 10:08:06 AM
The one on the far left is going to have another student in Grayson County take his SAT - he can't make a 600.
2/17/2006 10:08:35 AM
that thing on the right looks like Queen Latifah
2/17/2006 10:31:04 AM
Numbers one and two have the Hansbrough "duh" face going.
2/17/2006 10:33:33 AM
They were talking about this class being the number 1 class in America. There're also 2 more players to this class, they're (6 players) all ranked in the top 100, and 5 of them ranked in the top 50. Pretty impressive class IMO.
2/17/2006 10:36:57 AM
they'll be at UNC for one year max - Oak Hill just needs to start a fifth year of High School - NBA prep certificate.
2/17/2006 10:37:34 AM
how does UNC have so many scholarships available? Doesn't a player leaving early HURT your scholarships? I thought the NCAA had put in place a penalty for players leaving early.
2/17/2006 10:40:48 AM
2/17/2006 10:58:58 AM
well how many did they have leave early last year??? I don't think I understand the concept of having these rules in place if they don't work on everyone....
2/17/2006 11:07:44 AM
Isn't there some loophole that if you can give the guy a degree within a few years its ok?
2/17/2006 11:08:28 AM
The UNC loophole? I don't know. I think if a player leaves early, you should have to hold that scholarship until the year they were slated to graduate. So if a freshman leaves, you lose that scholarship for the other three years. No loopholes. No favoritism. Nothing.
2/17/2006 11:11:06 AM
2/17/2006 11:11:50 AM
3 of the top egos too - those guys don't care a thing about playing college ball. they just want to be in the NBA
2/17/2006 11:16:35 AM
It's a one-year associates degree in ego-stroking at the UNC School of Thuggery
2/17/2006 11:30:40 AM
they are gonna be crazy athletic next year, i fucking hate UNC, but can't honestly say that I am not looking forward to seeing what these guys can do, albeit they will only be in baby blue for 2 years max
2/17/2006 11:33:03 AM
mad niggerishi thought roy didn't like darkie.
2/17/2006 11:36:27 AM
2/17/2006 11:40:45 AM
^I thought I remembered reading that they were going to adjust the calculation so it only applied to players that were actually leaving for academic reasons.
2/17/2006 11:42:09 AM
They are because of what I mentioned. You are correct.. I don't know if they have done so already..
2/17/2006 11:45:14 AM
2/17/2006 11:45:35 AM
I know the two guys on the left are Tywon Lawson and Wayne Ellington, but which one of the two guys on the right is Brandan Wright?
2/17/2006 11:47:12 AM
How the hell can you guys say they don't care about playing college ball. They are the best players in the country, so they go to one of the top 3 programs in the country. Deal.
2/17/2006 11:49:00 AM
Wright is second from the right.

You certainly can punish them. This makes the colleges work harder to recruit kids who really want to be there, not just egomaniacal thugs who might be getting paid to help a school for one year. I'm sorry, but something has got to work to stop kids from only attending college for one year and then bolting to the NBA. Seems as though UNC/Duke/Arizona are simply becoming one-year layovers for NBA bound players...I think that the schools should be punished. If they're going to recruit the guy, they should recruit him for four years, not just "come play for us for a year and your draft status will skyrocket since all the scouts get paid by us"College basketball is losing it's luster, NBA is losing it's prestige, and the national championship is now just a resume stuffer for kids looking for big money and extra long NBA careers.
2/17/2006 11:51:21 AM
Nice ears mr. wright, nice ears
2/17/2006 11:51:42 AM
I thought was Humpty
2/17/2006 11:53:19 AM
Right, that is why May, Felton, and McCants all stayed for 3.
2/17/2006 11:53:29 AM
They couldn't have left after an 8-20 season...now could they.
2/17/2006 11:54:50 AM
They could have left the year after. Hey, give me a few names of kids leaving after 1 year at UNC, besides Marvin.[Edited on February 17, 2006 at 11:57 AM. Reason : .]
2/17/2006 11:56:59 AM
They all leave early because Roy teaches discipline over there.
2/17/2006 11:57:13 AM
no really, who has left carolina or kansas after 1 year besides Marvin?
2/17/2006 11:57:54 AM
Hardly anyone leaves after their freshman year unless they are studs, a-la Melo.
2/17/2006 11:58:43 AM
It doesn't matter. They are smart, get their degrees, don't want to risk injury in such a dangerous sport, and are very well-disciplined by Roy, who is the best coach in the history of the game for many reasons.

my bad. It was the year after that.... What was their record that year? It's more a question of intent. The NCAA gives the player 5 years to play 4. If the player choses a school, he should make his intentions clear as to whether he's going to stay the whole time or if he's just taking the equivalent of a summer job (getting paid but not as much) before moving on to his real career. If the college knows his intentions, and takes him anyway, they bear some burden of responsibility for this behavior as it degrades the academic integrity of the NCAA. It is not only the NBA's job to prevent it from happening, but the College and University systems need to look to themselves for blame for allowing it to happen. The schools spend hundreds of thousands recruiting these kids for one year of play? It doesn't make sense to me for the NBA to bear all the blame when the schools recruit a player knowing he's only staying one year. They recruit them just to boost their number of AA's or to improve recruiting stature among competetors. I just don't think it's the NBA's fault. The universitys should share the blame and the penalties for playing with fire.I wasn't just talking about UNC's athletes btw. It's an NCAA-wide problem.[Edited on February 17, 2006 at 12:15 PM. it was 19-16, then 19-11 the year after.[Edited on February 17, 2006 at 12:09 PM. Reason : just checked]
2/17/2006 12:05:09 PM
They certainly could have left after their soph year. McCants would have gone at the same part of the draft as he did. They went to second round and lost to Texas that year.
2/17/2006 12:08:46 PM
wolf is right, this behavior is just a slap in the face to the colleges. if you can be a farm school and just recruit all the hot shot NBA seekers for a couple years you are going to be good. what does it say for the main reason to attend college though?
2/17/2006 1:40:12 PM
2/17/2006 1:44:57 PM
Highly ranked high school players do not always pan out to be as great as they are predicted to be. see Shavlik Randolph and Ronald Curry. This class looks good right now but wait till next year and then can make a judgement
2/17/2006 2:58:37 PM
some people will take pot shots at the uncs/dukes whenever they canthere was a rule in place at one time, the 5/8 rule, which gave you 5 scholarships per year/8 over a two year span, but the NCAA recently got rid of this rule. the people that complain because guys are good enough to take their talent to the NBA just need to quit their fucking whining. I long for the day that NCSU can have 2-3 NBA caliber players who are ready to jump to the league early.

I dont see what the problem is with kids who dont want to go to college. hmmm college or moeny hos and clothes? Its an easy choice. If you could go work in what your degree is in college and you didnt need a degree why would you stay and get it? I dont think school should be penalized for anything other than athletes with poor acedemics. If they are in good standing and choose to move on with their life who are we to say its wrong?
2/17/2006 3:49:57 PM
i didn't realize basketball was a degree
