completely agree, and i'm finding more reasons to like it all the time. The new release of 2.0 is great with a lot of backend improvements, including built-in ability to upload and style pictures and media (previously available via plugins) and a pretty nice WYSIWYG editor (with full access to the HTML still, of course). The installation and upgrading processes are insanely easy, and customization is easy and straightforward. But the plug-ins really make it great. http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins#Plugins_by_categoryI use the excellent G2WP (Gallery2 to WordPress) plugin to fully integrate my Gallery2 inside my wordpress site/blog - download - http://wpg2.ozgreg.com/index.php/Main_Pageexample - http://thalions.com/blogs/joe/wp-gallery2.phpThen you can use G2Image to easily pull thumbnails from your Gallery2 installation into your blog with links to the G2 pagehttp://g2image.steffensenfamily.com/index.php?title=Main_PageAnd I recently found (i.e. yesterday) some good Video plugins so you can easily put Google Video or YouTube videos into your blog.Extreme Video Plugin - http://www.rossgerbasi.com/2006/01/21/extreme-video-plugin-20/example - http://thalions.com/blogs/joe/archives/31The number of available themes is crazy. You can almost surely find a theme that fits your general need, then modify it to your specific liking. http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes/Theme_Listhttp://www.alexking.org/index.php?content=software/wordpress/themes.phphttp://themes.wordpress.net/.not to mention, the author of the Extreme Video Plug-in noted yesterday that he plans on using some of Yahoo's recently introduced AJAX UI Library into some more WP plugins. Those will be hot - http://www.rossgerbasi.com/2006/02/14/yahoo-ui-library/[Edited on February 16, 2006 at 6:47 AM. Reason : Yahoo]PLUS, if you use the embedded Gallery2, you can still use all of Gallery's plugins/modules, like the "Map Module" - http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Modules:MapMine is still under construction (experimenting with colors, routes, etc), but the functionality is still there and works great inside WP. http://www.thalions.com/blogs/joe/wp-gallery2.php?g2_view=map.ShowMap[Edited on February 16, 2006 at 6:50 AM. no shit. if you want a "truly original site", more power to you. You can spend a month creating a design and implementing a backend. But for Aunt Nelly who wants to put up some pics of her new baby and spout meaningless drivel about her life to the 1/2 dozen people in the world who care, then WP (or similar engine) is the way to go. Within minutes she can have a fully functional, nicely styled, standards compliant site with more functionality that your site will ever have.

meh i don't use it for blogs. i'd rather just go ahead and slit my wrists and die - that'd be so much more emo than having a blog.this is for sites i don't want to make original - they're like goddamn weeds, popping up everywhere - everyone wants a site nowadays for this, that, and the other.]
