Has anyone been there? I'm going to Florida during the weekend of the 24th. Any places of interest. Any shuttles down to Key West? What is there to do?

I've been in Miami for the past 7 weeks for some work. Not a bad place, overall. Traffic is horrific. Food is pretty wonderful. Women are hot.Oh, and Amsterdam718 is here.
2/15/2006 3:42:13 PM
why would there be a shuttle to key west?i mean, its a ~3 hour drive down two-lane roads the whole timeof course, i could be wrongbut that just seems wierdpsthe drive to key west is fucking beautifulunless you get caught straight out of miami behind a long line of fucks
2/15/2006 4:10:32 PM
MIAMI is hot, G. I don't spend too much time on south beach cause it's too much posing. I prefer Lincoln Road where there's moderate posing, good restaurants and excellent drinks. FORT LAUDERDALE beach is alot better actually. it's more relaxed and more quality VAG spread available . . .
2/15/2006 4:15:03 PM
^ You're kidding, right? Lincoln Road is on South Beach, G.FTL/Broward is garbage compared to Miami. You obviously haven't ventured out to Coconut Grove, Brickell, or much anywhere besides the Beach. And quit saying "G".
2/15/2006 5:24:16 PM
lincoln road is south beach, but I was referring to the collins/ocean ave area, B. also coconut grove is very nice. i just prefer the ft lauderdale beaches and the las alos area. it's more relaxed . . . but what do I know I live in North Bay Village/Miami Beach, G.
2/15/2006 5:32:38 PM
I live on Key Biscayne, I use to live off Brickell. What does "G" mean?
2/15/2006 5:36:50 PM
man, Ft. Lauderdale beach doesnt compare at all to South Beach.yes, its more relaxed but there is no way the coug is betterLast time i was there, I walked up and down south beach rolling joints and looking at topless women. ran up on some photo shot and met a bunch cool people that didnt speak english. If i had the balls, i would move to South Beach...but i fear i would die from vag and partying
2/15/2006 5:54:14 PM
ok thanks alot. well i won't have a car so i was just wondering if they had any bus/shuttle that went to key west or smthg. I think i'm staying near biscayne bay or bay biscayne...its another person's condo and its their "summer" pad...so they don't have a car there.

ill be in miami for spring break
2/16/2006 2:45:38 AM
Miami is awsome, i hope to go back for spring break, and with any luck move there eventually. The beach is good, i love Lincold road, there is pretty good food, make sure you get some Cuban food while you're there, it's soooo good!Don't worry about all supposed "poser" stuff, people are really nice. No one, at least that i encountered, was mean or pretentios, and if anyone is, you know they're an asshole. Pick up a travel book so that you can find some off the beaten path stuff.Oh, and if you love shopping, Dolphin Mall is a great outlet mall. It's ass out in Doral, but it only takes like 20 minutes on the highway.
2/16/2006 6:47:52 PM
what is some good cuban food? red beans and rice or is that not cuban?
2/16/2006 7:06:28 PM
mojitos
2/16/2006 9:07:21 PM
^^maduros, palomilla...you should also try some cuban coffee
2/17/2006 8:00:30 AM
Miami is alot of fun. There are alot of clubs in South Beach, a couple have dance floors over swimming pools. Definitely try some stone crab while you're there. Joe's is one of the better places to get the stone crab. If you get to Key West, check out Sloppy Joe's for a mellow bar with decent prices. The Everglades are between Key West and Miami and you could spend a couple of days there and still not see everything. For some authentic Mexican food, hit up downtown Homestead. There are about 3 really good restaurants on Main Street, one of which used to be BYOB.
2/17/2006 1:22:58 PM
coconut grove is pretty nice
2/17/2006 1:46:49 PM
The Everglades are very cool, check out Shark Valley if you want to see lots of gators, and the part of the park near Flamingo just reopened finally after the damage from Wilma.[Edited on February 17, 2006 at 9:42 PM. Reason : :]

2/19/2006 10:32:32 PM
question for those who go there a lot or natives: What is a good, fairly inexpensive place to stay, closer to the beach is better? I'm not getting anything good off the travel websites.Thanks.
2/20/2006 1:47:28 PM
if you are driving down- you can stay downtown Miami for much cheaper (Brickell Ave) and drive the 5 miles to the beach. However, its more fun to be on the beach on Ocean Drive. Everything is on Ocean Drive will be outrageous this time of year. Marriott on South Beach was decently priced for my parents who came down for the Miami Boat Show. I paid $180/night to stay at the Avalon on 6th and Ocean Drive over New Years 2004. There is this art deco looking Best Western on the corner of 11th and Washington, which is close to bars, clubs, and Lincoln Road. However, you are 2 blocks from the ocean. Try some other major chains who have hotels under different names.http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/selectHotel.do;jsessionid=B6343821015424E016147A87442D03D8

Okay, I got a decent room in maimi beach, now i need to know what clubs to go to.Last time we didn't even bother with clubs, but i figure we should try this time around, at least once. So what are cool clubs? How does it work in Miami, is there always a cover, is there a cool place where the cover is not too uch? Also, i know it's supposed to be really hard to get in, so what's your advice (besides being hot )?Thanks!
2/22/2006 9:58:56 PM
I'd hit that shit like Mark McGuire.
2/22/2006 10:22:27 PM
I'm not sure if it's Key West specifically, but you have GOT to try conch fritters...kind of like calamari. It's the animals that live in those huge seashells and they fry them. mm mm so tasty
2/22/2006 10:23:10 PM
mmm those conch fritters do sound tasty. i'm sure the seafood there is plentiful. thanks for all the tips...i'll be going down saturday! woot.

when we went to miami we went to these clubsnikki beach - sundaysmall clubs on collins like - Bed .. etc - mondaycrobar - tuesday and thursdaymansion - wednesdayopium - fridaythis is how i see it, it all depends on how much money u want to spendmost of these clubs on collins next to bed, are like clubs in raleigh, decent prices, some have like 20$ open bar deals, but those are usually the shitty ones, but are full with pussy.nikki beach is impossible to get in unless u know someone, we paid off the bouncer (20$ each, its funny cause the cover itself was 30$) who got us in from a side door, its on the beach, tables and mattresses and shit, small dance floors compared to the size of the club, i didnt like it. but, celebs are always there, (Eve, was in the VIP room when we went there) and the parking lot is stacked with ferraris, and other very expensive cars.opium - cover is 30$ nice inside, but it was my least favorite club, didnt like the people, and there was like 30 some bikers from new york.Crobar- cover 25$ and drinks are 8$+ but its awesome, my favorite club, the got dancers everywhere, one time they had a stage and a fashion show, its 3 floors, very big, and alot of chicks that wonna get fucked. ( u need to have chicks to get in this one, we grabbed some UVA chicks that were walkin by and went in, second time my friend peaked into the guest list and we got in as if we were on the list)Mansion - my second favorite. they had the winter music awards in Miami, and paris hilton had her private party there (Pdiddy has his in Crobar, we tried, but couldnt get it there were like 200 some people at the door) so we got in after hours of trying, paid 400$ for a table + complementary champegne but it was all worth it, all the girls at the club were goddesses and we got to see Paris hilton gettin trashed. they said Fat Joe was in mansion too, but i didn see him.in 2004 we went with a rental car and got a hotel outside miami beach and it sucked tryin to find parkin all the time, so this time we got a hotel on collins + 10th, which is close to alot of stuff, and we are flying down there.hope this helps[Edited on February 22, 2006 at 11:12 PM. Reason : /.]
2/22/2006 11:11:00 PM
oh, and make sure u dress nice everywhere u go, even to the shitty clubs.and if you are ugly, u should stick to the clubs on collins around bed, cause your chances of getting anywhere else are slim to none
2/22/2006 11:14:03 PM
I dont know if someone said it already but, Miami to Key West is a 3 hour drive not a quick shuttle. We drove it this summer all the way from Raleigh to Key West.

Oh yeh so I had a blast when I went up there. This doc I knew has a penthouse at The Conrad in downtown miami so me and my friends crashed up there. There Hurricane Wilma closed down the hotel for a few months so in return he got a free hotel room on the house so me and my ex stayed there while he stayed up in his penthouse. He also got $200 in free food at the hotel's restaurant which was nice. We went the day before I got there they went to Mansion. I ended up going to Bed and had a great time. We had lunch one time at The Setai, which was pretty good. The food network was helping to host the South Beach Food and Wine Festival so there were a lot of people there for that. I was sad that I didn't see any celebrities, but I guess it made sense since it was February. I personally think its hell to drive around there, so I was glad my friend had a car. The day we went to Nikki Beach it was utterly empty. I'm sure its poppin' now, but there were a lot of gay people/male models so we didn't really stay too long. Be sure to try some authentic Cuban food while you are down there. They also have lots of outside shopping etc. Try not to get stuck in too much traffic though especially if you have to catch a flight. I was about 5 minutes from missing my flight b/c of traffic. Hope you have a blast!http://conradhotels1.hilton.com/en/ch/hotels/index.do?ctyhocn=MIACICIhttp://www.setai.com/http://www.bedmiami.com/http://www.southbeach-usa.com/clubs/club-directory/mansion.htmhttp://www.southbeach-usa.com/clubs/club-directory/pawnshop.htm

if you want a chill bar to go to before yougo clubbing, check out the Delano, place is real nice. Sky bar is cool too but a little tricky to find. last time i was on teh beach during the day I hung out at the Clevlander, they have a bikini show late saturday afternoons (hot ladies). usually the resteraunts on ocean have cheaper meals after 4 I think. Mansion is nice but for a chill bar if you cannot get in to mansion there is a pub like bar next to it (reminds me of raliegh bars). there is also a place called the abbey brewery off of alton that has good beers (its in a seedy part of the beach though).for football games go to sandbar in the grove, they have a bunch of screens there to watch all the games. uncle moes (thinks that the name) also is good to watch games at. at night you can go to fat tuesdays in the grove at coco walk, just make sure to stay away from that aweful HS bar upstairs. if you have a lady with you check out the martini bar there, there is also a latin club there that has amazing women in barely anything.las olas is awesome also, but its a good drive from Miami. also check out the hard rock casino near FTL, they have a bunch of bars and clubs on the property that is alot of fun.conch fritters are nothing like calamari btw, they are just a seasoned batter with diced conch and peppers.[Edited on September 28, 2006 at 7:49 PM.
