bearings support loads.what's the problem asking, though? looking at the course description, i'm going to guess that you don't need to know exactly what a bearing is

" As a general rule if a support prevents the translation of a body in a given direction, then a force is developed on the body in that direction. Likewise, if rotation is prevented, a couple moemnt is exerted on the body"book, page 197in this question it doesnt really matter, forces in the X direction cancel each other outso u will only have to factor in Ay and By in your FBD.BTW, if u get anything on 8-1 let me know, i am stuck.good luck

alright i got chapter 7 but im stuck on 8-1 too. my three equations are:vertical: By + Ay - 58.8 = 0horizontal: -10 + Bx + Ax = 0moment cw at B: (58.8)(.6) - Ay(1.5) - (10)(.9) = 0That gives me Ay = 17.52 and the answer says Na = 16.5

Moment @B: -Ay(1.5)+58.86(0.6)-10(1.05)=16.544 N
