Lately when ive been trying to download various files, such as new firefox browsers, or files from download.com.... the download randomly freezes in the middle of it, and never restarts, any ideas?

Where do you live? I had some issues over here at UT, and that was caused by an antivirus script sent out by the ISP every hour or so. If you're using a router over here, the script causes the router to put 100% of its CPU into running the script and the router goes down for about 30 seconds. And by "randomly", do you mean once every twenty downloads or every other download? And do you ever have problems with games (Rainbow 6, Counterstrike, etc, not flash games or anything) hanging during play? The internet systems seem a bit buggy in places because there are hundreds and thousands of people all running through the same network, and I wouldn't be surprised if you had issues sometimes. When I lived at Wood Hall, the internet would randomly go down every few hours for up to a few minutes. So, I think that if you're running a router, maybe try doing downloads running straight into the wall and see if that is causing the problem (shouldn't, but it might be). And take note of the time of day when the biggest problems occur. If you're having this problem at 4 am, its not traffic, but if the internet hangs at 8pm, it probably is. And if I didn't hit the issue, post more specifics (browser, frequency, filesizes, time of day, etc), and maybe something will jump out at one of us.

I had a similar issue when I lived off campus, in my case it was a firmware issue with a linksys router
