Alright boys and girls I am going on a first date with a special girl this Friday and I could really use some non-cliche date ideas. I have looked through some of the other threads but they don't really have much for a first date. I haven't been on a real first date since like high school so any input would be appreciated. I don't want to do anything super-romantic or whatever since we haven't known each other that long and we mostly just want to get to know each other better.

Try something fun like skating or bowling followed by some blockbuster. Chances are one of u hasnt done that in a while which makes it fun and hilarious at the same time and u can build up a nice comfort level for some alone time.I mean it's pretty cliche depending on the person but I think it's cool.[Edited on February 8, 2006 at 10:58 PM. Well I just don't want to do something plain like a movie. Oh and I should mention btw that she is eating dinner with some of her friends beforehand so I am not looking for any good restaurants [at this time]. But thanks for the suggestions so far. btw Kenny, check your PM.

if she already has dinner plans tell her to save room for deserteither go get desert or make her some and hang out at your place maybe with a movie or something, its still kinda cliche but its a good way to talk. i could give you creative ideas but they would be over the top for a first date.

SHOOTING RANGE OR FROG GIGGIN'!!!! (Just kidin', I don't know any girls that would be cool with that.)Do not go bowling, most girls dont like that shit. [Edited on February 8, 2006 at 11:37 PM. Reason : *any*]

sorry i dont have a non ciche tww answer

I would recommend drinks somewhere that would be low-key so you have the chance to actually talk. The dessert thing is a good idea, but I would recommend a neutral location (might be a bit too forward to ask her to come to your place later in the evening). Basically anywhere you can actually talk and hear each other is a good idea (thus movies are bad because at the end of the night all you really know is if you felt the same way about what you just saw).

city market... check out the exhibits at artspace then grab a beer at woody's... worked for me

The first date of the 3 year long relationship I’m currently in was going out for hot chocolate & cheese sandwiches, and staying up late watching cartoons and talking most of the night.[Edited on February 9, 2006 at 12:32 AM. Reason : .]

2/9/2006 4:04:00 AM

Aren't you from the UK? If so, you're golden. Your accent will do all the work for you with American girls.

Yeah I am from London but the idea is to try and get her to actually like me and not just the way I speak. Of course, if she does like the way I speak, that is an advantage that is more than welcome. I think I am gonna see how she feels about ice skating followed by cheesecake. Thanks for the tips guys.

2/10/2006 12:30:50 AM
comedy club
2/10/2006 12:34:22 AM
hating cliches is so fuckin cliche
2/10/2006 12:37:24 AM
^^Comedy Club is right.Take her to Charlie Goodnights. Few drinks, few laughs.
2/10/2006 12:57:21 AM
dude, when the weather warms up...take her to an elementary school or park and swing on the swings late night or during the day.. it will make her feel like a kid again and its fun.....plus free
2/10/2006 1:13:50 AM
i don't do first dates... i just skip right ahead to the 3rd or 4th date to start off with.
2/10/2006 2:23:34 AM
^^I tried that once and got flashing blue lights. Why the hell Charlotte police were patrolling elementary school parking lots at night is beyond me. If you guys are into improv comedy, you can get tickets and drinks at ComedyWorx for $20-$30.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys, I really appreciate it. Last night went great and I get to see her again on Valentine's Day (only for a little bit though cause she has to study a lot for a test the next day).
2/11/2006 12:13:05 PM
study the calculus together. Impress her with your mad calculating skizills.
2/11/2006 1:32:45 PM
2/11/2006 1:36:28 PM
cook somethin elaborate together
2/11/2006 1:38:20 PM
go to a theatre/show/concert, e.g. http://www.carolinatheatre.org/onstage/index.html the new shanghai circus looks interesting, last show is tonight at 7just make sure to do something either before or after that lets you talk and get to know the other person^agreed, cooking your dinner together is fun and there isn't the romantic tension there would be had the guy prepared dinner by himself, save that for later date. you can even take it a step further and go grocery shopping together to get whatever you want to cook[Edited on February 11, 2006 at 1:52 PM.
