Long story short, a pick-up truck damaged my car on the highway and did not stop, i chased him down, got the license plate number, description of the truck and of the driver and called the Durham PD (since it was in Durham County) and gave all this info to the officer, he calls me back that night (since his computer was 'down' and couldn't look it up on scene) and said that the licence plate i gave him was invalid so there was nothing he can do about it.

After hearing this for the second time in a matter of months (after a similar situation happened to me) i did my own investigation and tracked down the owner of the license plate that i had given the officer and the vechile it is registered under is exactly the vechile that i described to the officer. So either A) he doesn't know what he's doing or B) he doesn't want some poor redneck having to pay high repair costs for some arab towel head.

Improve your self image and then call back.

I would suggest calling the PD (non-emergency line) and asking to speak with a sergeant.

unless you get the guy to admit it how the hell are you gonna prove it.... assuming it wasnt that serious, if there is clear damage on his you might have a case.. but even still

One: don't appear like a terrorist and people won't consider you one.

Two: Keep calling back, they won't do anything to you, you giving up is the only problem in the process I see, and report the officer if it makes you feel better, althrough he might just take it out on another towelhead

Three: Go as high up in the pd as you can, if one officer is presenting a problem find his superior and speak to him, if he's a problem find his, etc...

Four: Durhams a shithole stay out of that place.

self image has a lot to do with how people interact with you. For some reason I think you were a dick to the cop when you spoke with him...at least that's the feeling I get from you naming yourself 'CamelJockyJr' and referring to yourself as a "arab towel head".

Lose the chip on your shoulder...

have you tried confronting the driver about the problem?

also, how do you know the plates on there are even legitimate? i mean, it IS durham. counterfeit plates aren't hard to get either.

sounds shady. if you wanna be a dick about it, keep sniffing up the tree. but i'd let it go. things happen. pay for the problem, and move on. it's not like he did it maliciously.

omg racist!

^the plates aren't counterfiet because the vechile i pulled up in the database was his.

and this is the 2nd time it happens (first time was a drunk driver who got away because Cary PD did nothing.) so in short i'm not letting the same thign happen twice.

but back to the self-image crap.

A) cameljockyjr was a nick-name from long ago
B) i was very respectful and said plz and thx whenever necessary
C) i was very helpful towards his police report
D) as for towel head, thats what you shmucks call us these days isn't it?

Ask to speak to the commissioner. Tell em you won't leave until you talk to him. Like Blankman did.

If is is a company, you should be able to call them directly. Say x truck with plate xxxxxx damaged your vahicle by ....and then ask for compensation. Police won't be able to do anything, and you will need to take the company to small claims if they don't want to pay.
The police probably pulled up a company as the plate registration if I am understanding you correctly.

the officer called me and said that the plate he pulled up belonged to a Semi Truck and not to a white ford F350

Regardless of whether you can get police to do something about the incident, it is unacceptible for them to lie to you like that and you should do whatever it takes to make sure somebody is held accountable.

obviously he didnt stop for a reason

probably knew he was fucked and figured his "license plate" was good enough to get him out of it

i've lived in durham for most of my life. you won't be able to get anything out of the police department. corruption and incompetence is the motto there. you're better off going straight to the company and finding a lawyer if its really that important to you.

Durham is lucky to have a day pass, where a teenager doesnt get shot on the public transit system. I would be willing to bet that your incident isnt very high up on their list of priorities
