You knew it sounded fishy.

http://www.cbpp.org/2-6-06bud.htm

Quote :
"the Administration’s own numbers indicate that the President’s budget proposals would increase deficits by $192 billion over the next five years, compared to what deficits would be if current laws and policies remained unchanged.[1] Indeed, data contained in Administration budget materials show that deficits would total $760 billion over the next five years without the policy changes the Administration is proposing, but would total $952 billion with those policy changes."

every thing a politician has every promised in regards to the debt has assumed the voter can't do simple math.

Except for maybe Bill Clinton. He had a REAL long term plan and actually started to decrease the debt by the end of his terms. I remember listening to one platform where someone wanted to eliminate the debt (5 trillion $ at that time) in the first 18 months in office. Given present situation, GWB's statement is about as silly.

It's not impossible to cut taxes AND cut the deficit. They just have to scale back gov. spending, and make other things more efficient.

I'm pretty sure that's what they're alluding to in the article. The administration's promise to halve the deficit by '09 is following the CBO's guidelines that require such supplemental appropriations to be ignored and presumes no changes in public policy between now and then.

IOW - it's a purely fictitious '09 deficit figure that they're passing around. More proof, if you needed it, that the administration would prefer to keep the public in la-la land about its fiscal policy.

the public will always be in la-la land. its just a matter of which side gets to define the la-la

you're upset because the democrats weren't able to. well, win some elections then.

Exco.

Jesus fuckin christ.

The budget balanced under the clinton years was done so based on that years expendatures and government income. The surplus resulted because of a continuosly growing economy. It doesn't matter if the fucking stock market crashed or not. What matters is that the budget was balanced.

Bush, on the other hand, didn't even bother balancing a budget. He went on, and continues to stay on, a spending spree.

I mean

Do you know anything?

anything?

My response was more for Excoriator, who may come out from under his bridge any minute to educate us all on why PAYGO was the worst idea ever. I'll clarify, though.

Democrats don't have anything to do with the bullshit figures being put forward by the president about halving the deficit by '09.

how do you make things more efficient by spending less? basic economics.

and for the halving the deficit, i call bullshit more than anything. as long as we're still funding the military and spending beyond our means, the deficit will get bigger. are those think tanks at the white house good for anything other than coming up with impossible miracles?
