Anyone know, what's a good type of oil to use, when cleaning a knife? I don't want to put some crap on it and screw up the jackknife pins.

You can use WD-40 to clean with, then put a drop of 3 in 1 oil on the tangs. If it's a collector knife (not a user) and you want to store it for a long time, buy you some Renaissance Wax and coat the entire knife with it.[Edited on February 7, 2006 at 12:57 AM. Reason : .]

^^I was looking for conventional items to clean them with, not jacks dandy knife cleaning oil. And, it will help if you know any of that. Yah, it's a pricey one, I'll just soak it.[Edited on February 7, 2006 at 1:08 AM. Reason : wd-40 ]

Gun oil is a good option. It protects against rust and is resistant to "gunking" up. I'd also look into knife sharpening oils. Just remember, you get what you pay for.
