Bruno is a male, tan&black shar pei mix puppy. They think it's possible he has rottweiler as well, b/c of his sister's coloring. He is ~10 weeks old, and we're not sure how big he will get. He's sweet as anything, loves to follow me around because he missed out on human contact for a while (he was rescued from an animal control facility). He has a skin condition but it's been treated. He's been playing with my 4 mo. old puppy like mad since I brought him home about an hour ago.

I'm fostering him through a Cary vet, PetSound. The rescue organization aspect is Sound Pet, and you can find out how to go about applying for adoption through their website, http://www.soundpet.org. There is an adoption fee that includes vaccinations, microchip, neutering.

$150 is great! There's no way you'd ever get away with paying that low of a puppy's startup costs (it covers vaccinations, neutering, microchip, and therefore you don't pay office visit fee + physical exam).

Yeah he's adorable. He's going to be a big guy. One tech guessed around 60lbs, but apparently it could be anywhere between 45-110lbs (b/c of the suspected rottweiler in him). He walks kind of awkwardly, I don't know if it's b/c he's young, b/c of lack of exercise in the past, or if it's a medical problem like hip dysplasia (sp). I'll check with them and update tomorrow.

^They're very easygoing so I'm sure if you want him badly enough you could talk to them over the phone/in person and get an okay.

^^Yes, you can pick up a dog/puppy from the SPCA for $115. But not only is it a larger organization with more funding, but it's also not that huge of a difference, if a person likes Bruno over dogs they see at another shelter/rescue. Many small rescues have adoption fees of around $150. That's what we paid for our puppy, who we fell in love with. We just didn't see any dogs (that weren't pending adoption) at the SPCA that struck the right chord. It could be the same way with other people. Some rescues adopt adult dogs out for only $90 b/c they don't need the puppy shots.

My exclamation about the adoption fee being low was compared to if you picked up a stray puppy, or from someone with a litter of pups that couldn't afford all that stuff. You'd be looking at almost that much just from the first visit, not to mention the other two rounds of shots + spay/neuter + microchip.

The main thing is making sure animals are continuously being rescued from Animal Control. That is where Bruno came from (as well as the other dogs Sound Pet has), and he had the skin problem b/c he lived in the concrete shelter they have, and the people would spray the whole thing down, animals included, without drying them. So they'd just sit there, cold & wet. It's just great to get them out of those kind of conditions.

Oh, and I was told that he probably walks like he does b/c of lack of exercise in the animal control facility, and b/c he has large joints. But I'll take him in to get checked out, to be safe.

okay, I'm just curious here, what do you mean when you keep refering to the microchip that the dog will need. I have never heard of dogs needing microchips for any reason at all.

Is it just a tracking device for the city/you in case the dog runs away? Or are we playing big brother with our dogs to make sure they don't go buying beer before they turn 21?

The microchip contains owners information and if he runs away and gets turned in to the pound, they'll scan him and see that he belongs to whoevers info is on that chip.

so what if 150 is a little steep? i mean...hell if you get a purebred dog you're guaranteed to pay ATLEAST 2 - 3x that just to get the dog minus anything. 150$ for a dog that has been fixed and had shots is an amazing deal.

good grief people. not only is it gay pissing on this girl's thread for trying to adopt out a dog.... but if 150 vs. 115 (or whatever the going adoption rate is) is seriously a big deal to you, then you absolutely dont need to be getting the dog anyways. vet checkups shots during the first few months are gonna be in the 100-200 range anyways not including spay/neuter, food, toys, etc. Heck, obedience training is 100 bucks if you want/need that.

Bruno seems to have a cold or something, so I'm taking him in tomorrow to get checked out. I'll find out the adoption status then, since I know they've gotten some applications in. Unfortunately at the time I picked him up the applicants wanted a guard dog, and that is absolutely not something they're going to adopt him for.

bttt!! The sooner this sweetie is adopted, the sooner I can foster his sister, who is apparently in poor physical health Unless someone steps up and becomes a foster parent, she's having it rough right now.

Bruno seems to be doing a lot better now. I'm still taking him in tomorrow but he has more energy and more of an appetite.

I can also tell that he would do really really great with obedience training. I'll probably try it with him soon, although I'm by no means a professional. He already practically heels, and sits at your feet, so it's promising.

His favorite thing is to lay in your lap. Next is playing. He'll make someone very very happy! Please spread the word!!

Just wanted to support what ncsutiger said about the adoption fee. Here is a website to show the cost difference of buying/finding your own dog as compared to adopting. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate and in some cases adoption fees are more because of the size of the organization. There is no reason to buy a purebred pet when there are tons of cuties that are euthanized everyday

I discovered Bruno had tapeworms so he was treated for those today. He's flealess so tapeworms can not be transmitted to other animals from him.

Although he's been vaccinated for it, the vet thinks he might have a mild form of kennel cough, although Bruno seems a lot better off than what he would be if that was the case. They gave me antibiotics just in case. He's eating more food, and his excrement is normal. So he's good to go!

Bruno seems to have recovered already, so I guess it was a pretty mild cold thing. Now he's trying to eat my dogs' food

Please spread the word so this cutie can get adopted! It's cute - when you talk to him in a sweet voice he'll sit there and tilt his head.

He's nearly housetrained! He didn't have any accidents yesterday, and none so far today. Now I'll be training him to let us know when he needs to go outside.

Never the less, I'm putting the word out to some of my friends who have mentioned wanting a puppy, on Bruno's behalf.
