I am interested in trying to get an internship sometime next year, but have no clue as to how to go about this. Before going to my advisor, I figured I'd check with people on here and see how they got theirs, etc...

1. Go to the Career center, have them help you put together a good resume, then post it in their system.
2. Go to your college's Career Fair, and the Co-Op office. Submit applications wherever possible (usually you do things the semester before you want things i believe, could be wrong. might be earlier for Co-op). Also talk to your advisor.
3. Call back any companies you applied for a specific position for after a couple weeks. You should at this point be getting interviews/interest shown. Go from there.

My department sends emails with available internships. See if anyone in your dept would be willing to foward any opportunities to you. Also try Googling it, especially if you're willing to go out of town/state.

Do everything that everyone before me has suggested, theyve given very solid advice. In addition, try and find internships on your own. Think of companies/organizations that you are interested in and see if they offer internships. They will often mention it on their websites, but if not, contact them personally. BTW since I see that you are a com major, Im pretty sure that I saw the other day that the U.S. Dept of State is still accepting applications for their fall internships: both in DC and at embassies abroad. I did an internship overseas with them a few years back and would highly recommend it.
