The first time me or any of my friends have tried anything "buggy-like." Thought somebody might be interested to see progress. And got a new digital camera, so i've been snapping pics like a mad man. rad. how much was shipping? i know tkeaton was looking at an x chassis but shipping killed the deal or something.nothing *HAS* to be leaf sprung, you are just lazy :flipoff2:

How much was shipping for what? He's not buying anything really, we're going to fab the cage, mounts, crossmember, floor panels, etc. That x-chassis is pretty badass. As far "having" to use leafs, i meant for a true "formula toy" that compete and stuff, they have to be within certain guidelines, one of which is that leaf springs are used, no coilovers or anything like that. But he's not going to compete or anything, so yeah, we're lazy, and he's cheap. He said if he gets bored or frustrated with the leafs, then he'll go to coil overs or something else, but this is a big enough project as it is, without having to fab a new suspension system.

yeah... hey what are the rules on that anyway... i mean they built a 22re but yota had a turbo one so... i'm sure you could do that to it right ?

unless the rules have changed, an "official" formula toy has to run a carb (22r). also, a turbo is pretty useless on a trail rig.

yeah, that's pretty damn decent. there's lower crawls out there though. for example, i'm pretty sure Tuite's trooper might do 2mph redlined in first in double low. didn't watch the show, but i'm assuming they're using the stock 4.10's in the 3rd's and dual cases possibly depending on tire size.[Edited on February 4, 2006 at 11:26 PM. formula toys are 22r only. in double low i ran around 2mph redline in first. 4.7's in the second case. 4:10's in the axles and 42's. good luck on the new chassis...brian, i wanted to do an x chassis before i bought my last one but shipping killed the deal at 1000

thanks stone, we've got a lot of the prep work and hopefully getting the driveline mounted tomorrow. Tube is on order, and that's going to be a new experience for all of us. And I don't think yotaman is going to compete in it, it's just he thought this was a cool and definately the most economical way to build his first buggy. It's been fun so far, and hopefully we'll have a nice rig once it's all said and done.

Update: moved the motor back 8" and down 1" Made a "flat-belly" crossmember flush with the bottom of the frame to support the Tranny and T-cases.

i guess you need a crawl that low w/ the power they're getting from the 22re but i'd really like it a little higher... its hard to "kick" up on something when you stomp it and your speed changes maybe 1mph.best time i had wheelin was w/ a diesel fj-80 w/ longarms and 37s bummer it wasn't mine ohh it was a 5 speed too.

That's the beauty of dual transfer cases though, it's fully selectable. You can use either of the reduction boxes seperately (with different t-case gears if you choose), then you've got 5 tranny gears to choose from, or you can put them both in low and put it in 1st gear, then you've got you're super low crawling speed. So you can leave one of the cases in "high" when you feel the need for wheel speed.[Edited on February 6, 2006 at 11:30 AM. Reason : -]
