5w20 is usually recommended because that's what was used during EPA tests, and the manufacturer has to recommend what was used in those tests. It doesn't automatically mean that it is the best stuff for your car, but of course every car is different.A perfect example would be the Rx-8. Mazda recommends 5w20 because the EPA makes them, since the gas mileage tests were done with 5w20. That is a lot lighter than what other rotaries run... there is a significant amount of skepticism about that weight of oil. I personally use 20w50 in my car, as that is what was recommended back in the day (that or 10w30, which I have used before).

^^my VTEC honda specs 10W-40so i run 0W-40 Mobil 1, with a Mobil 1 filteri think they recommend oil changes every 7500 miles, too, and i don't remember seeing specifying full synth anywhere.I usually change it around 5k miles, although I've let it go to 6k a time or two. I figure that even in that high revving engine, with engine oil also feeding a supercharger, that Mobil 1 can handle 5-6k miles.
