I have roadrunner but no cable tv. Channel 2 comes in (WB) perfectly with a splitter (that the installer actually gave me). But no other channels. A friend told me it could be done with aa cable box, but hell, I don't know.Somebody give me the scoop! I'll leave a six pack out for ya! Really.

i think if someone has an extra cable box you can use it and get cable. who knows, i could be wrong about that

Maybe you can get cable if you call up TWC and order it?

if you order RR without cable.. they install a bandpass filter so the modem has frequencies to synch with, but it will also allow you to get channels in the frequency range of that filter.. Only way to get cable is to call TWC and order it and have them remove the filter.

they have a bandreject filter inline on the cable comming into your houseroadrunner uses a channel somewhere in the higher frequency's (ch72-76) for downstream and low frequency for upstream (might be backwards)they filter all the middle ones, sometimes you will be luck enough for the installer to have been lazy and not installed the filter, then you will get all the standard channels free if you plug a tv in, otherwise it would require a high gain(30db) wideband amplifier to pick anything up

motorola signal booster..that's how i get free cable..basic channels..CNN, TNT, etc

Cool, thanks for the info....I was mainly curious as to why it didn't work after hooking it up and giving it a try. And yes I could "just order it" but that takes all the fun out of this shit.

uh, you remove the filter. It's a silver tube that will either be in the box outside your house, or in the central box if you live in an apartment. Or, in the nearest junction box in a backyard or up a telephone pole.Take it off, reconnect the line, and you have 75 channels of basic cable. It's fucking retarded that they use these in the first place, because they cause all kinds of problems with RR on older modems. If you call and complain about bad service, they will just come out and remove it anyway, giving you unlocked basic cable.Removing it yourself IS TAMPERING WITH THEIR EQUIPMENT AND WILL LAND YOU WITH A FINE AND POSSIBLE PROSECUTION. Don't do it.

yeah, that's a good way to get busted. especially if you'r ein an apartment
1/29/2006 7:53:59 PM
what he said....
1/29/2006 10:21:06 PM
if its on the line on your house i thought you were allowed to remove it
1/29/2006 10:24:39 PM
its typically at their box... at least it was at my last house... I went looking for it and couldn't find it on my side I.e. I didn't steal cable
1/29/2006 11:10:59 PM

1/30/2006 7:39:55 AM
but seriously, if you want to steal something, just download the shows you want. I can guarantee almost ALL of them will be available, especially if they're popular, and they'll already be edited for commercialshttp://www.mininova.orghttp://www.torrentspy.comnot that i advocate stealing anything
1/30/2006 8:43:28 AM
^ torrent spy used to have a TON of spyware and crap that would attack you for just visiting the site. i assue they've cleaned out the shit by now...
1/30/2006 10:01:33 AM
yeah, there's so many people going to jail for removing cable filters. shit... cable installers have got to be the laziest guys on the planet. i'm sure any cable company would assume their guy was too lazy to put on a filter before assuming you took it off. after all, remember if you are in jail you can't pay 44.95/month for roadrunner!
