My girlfriend's hamster has wet tail, I am pretty sure. She is exhibiting all the symptoms:

-Lethargy
-Inability to walk well
-Some squealing

The "squealing" has been occuring for the past few days, and the severe symptoms of her not even being able to walk around well just occured tonight. (We actually thought she was just sneezing or something and might have had a mild infection).

Anyway, the websites I have been visiting all call for veterinary visits IMMEDIATELY as the hamster will die withing 24 hours or more.

Now, here are my questions.

1. Should I find an animal hospital to go to tonight or is it okay to wait until tomorrow morning?

2. How expensive will antibiotic treatment be for the hamster?

3. Will the antibiotic medicine be much more expensive if gotten at an animal hospital tonight then at a veterinarian tomorrow?

i know that when my hampsters had wet tail, the doc just put them down, b/c there wasn't a whole lot he could do, or my parents told him to do it b/c it really wasn't worth all the effort for a hamster, b/c they were easy to replace.

granted, if there is alot of emotional attachment, go to a vet, but i don't know man.

Not trying to sound morbid or mean or anything.

Unless it's a dog or horse it doesn't matter.

You know, you guys don't have to be such assholes. This pet, even though it was a hamster, meant a lot to me and my girlfriend. I own two others aside from this one, and I love them as much as I would a dog or anything else.

I guess you wouldn't understand that.

RIP Bebop

No I don't. It's a rat and carries diseases. If I saw a rat in my house like that, I would kill it (or expect my dog to kill it in my absence). Then I would have my entire house fumigated to kill any other rodents or pests that might still be hiding. It's a rodent, and rodents are worthless. They have no personality, all they do is eat, shit and mulitply.

Rats, hamsters, gerbils, whatever. They are all basically the same: filthy rodents. I'll leave at your request though, and let you wallow in saddness over your dead rat.
