alright, so dad didn't want to get a router when earthlink limited the number of connections to the house...so he's using something called EzProxy. I'm babysitting my sister tonight and tomorrow night. (yes, the whole EzProxy situation is a w.t.f)I can't use any IM service. Can't get on AIM using that client DirtyGreek posted about, AIM express, gaim, aim +, or regular aim. I set aim to go through the appropriate port on prozy (8000, in this case. dad always changes defaults), and you'd think it would work, and it doesn't. gave up on yahoo ages ago. I can't really figure anything else out to try. If there weren't a long-term purpose to getting aim up and running, i wouldn't bother.[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 8:54 PM. Reason : z no x]

why not just get a router? youc an get a used one for like $10 here and bam, aim. i can only imagine how much time your dad/your family has spent working with that shitty software. this is what routers are for, plus you get a baseline firewall with routers to keep shit out, which you dont get with this shite.http://www.takeforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41&mforum=lavasoft

just buy one for 10 bucks, install it yourself, and non-the-wiser.

#2 is a stupid reason.. routers are much easier to deal with then a software-based gateway.. if you have a problem, usually a power reset will fix the problem..

yeah that software sounds like a HUGE time vacuumrouter is plug and play, no config needed, encounter a problem just reset ityour dads stupid and shouldnt be allowed near computers. i know his type tho. at my old job they had this old-school wireless network going, it was one of the first consumer wireless products released, and was buggy as hell. this older guy would thought he knew a little about computers etc would spend hours and hours fixing problems with the wireless, only to have it break a couple weeks later. i signed on, got a $20 linksys wired router and had the whole network up and running in under an hour...obviously it never went down.[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 10:06 PM.
