As promised...All the talk of black helicopter flying, Zionist, Nazi j00s (not Jews) with tin-foil X-ray vision that anyone could possibly want!

Ok, it's done. He's unsuspended (along with Woodfoot.)Now, a message to everyone else...Arguing with him his all well and good. Gratuitously berating him is something I won't stop with an iron hand (because it's hard to clearly define), but have the decency not to do it. In addition, he can't respond to you in any thread besides this one, so it's a cheap shot for you to call him out elsewhere, and that makes you an intellectual limp-wrist if you resort to it.[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 7:33 PM. Reason : asdfasdf]
1/25/2006 7:31:14 PM
um, this thread itself has got to be the most humiliating thing anyway for him...he shouldn't be worrying about cheap shots elsewhere.its like the kiddy table for soapbox.damn, poor matt[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 7:37 PM. Reason : s]
1/25/2006 7:36:28 PM
Are you saying he can't post in any SB thread except this one, or any non-zany SB thread except this one, or what?
1/25/2006 7:37:41 PM
^^well, it's not a perfect solution. it's the best balancing act I've come up with.^
1/25/2006 7:39:15 PM
You do realize that by making rules like this, he wins?Pretty bullshit either way.
1/25/2006 7:40:31 PM
My God! Couldn't you use a tittle/first post that would be just a little less evil? You've done enough to him, stop this. If I were him, I'd refuse to post in this thing, just find another message board. While I'm sure you wouldn't mind, fairness comes to my mind. This is almost as bad as banning him! Then again, if he does return and start posting, then kudos to him
1/25/2006 7:42:17 PM
I haven't done shit to him. I didn't suspend him. I UNSUSPENDED him. I hope he posts in here, too.^^the point isn't to keep him from "winning".
1/25/2006 7:51:02 PM
1/25/2006 7:52:26 PM
YOU CAN'T SILENCE THE TRUTH
1/25/2006 7:53:37 PM
AND HE DOESN'T POST IT
1/25/2006 8:47:53 PM
BTW, just because the apparent majority here wanted some regulation introduced to TWW, don't jump too far. They demanded regulation of the kooks, which you have done here. Don't start regulating everything else as is done in other message boards. I only mention because there have already been two 's that I saw, used for no other purpose than the threads were stupid, which was beyond a reasonable expectation of purview when your jurisdiction was granted on the grounds of eliminating kooks.
1/25/2006 10:07:50 PM
i dont see why he cant post anywhere else as long as he does so in a non-zany manner.
1/25/2006 10:09:53 PM
^^http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=381856http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=381878I generally concur. I'd rather err on the side of letting things slide, but as far as I'm concerned, those two threads were over the Chit Chatty line.^I concur that self-discipline would be great, but that's already been tried a couple of times, and it didn't work. For that reason, and because the only way I believe he'll play by the rules is to lay out a very specific, concrete set of ROE, I'm doing it this way. Maybe I will relax this policy somewhere down the road, but this is the deal for now.
1/25/2006 10:22:30 PM
because he's proven that he's not capable of responsibly posting in a non-zany manner. since he can't be trusted, its easier to define clear borders for him. Otherwise, TWW will be inevitably faced with him drifting further and further towards zaniness until he pulls another "public education + zionists" move again.
1/25/2006 10:23:03 PM
^^ and so it becomes obvious that there is a great deal of concurrence on this issue[Edited on January 25, 2006 at 10:25 PM. Reason : s]

yepit was the education thread that really started this mess
1/25/2006 10:50:44 PM
Aha, I love you Duke.
1/25/2006 10:58:15 PM
oh my comment was just a hypothetical, i know it isnt possible.
1/25/2006 11:28:00 PM
While it’s a limitation in a sense, it’s also a kind of prominence to have his own thread. Maybe the structure that comes from having ones ideologies all together in one place will make his positions more tenable.
1/25/2006 11:39:50 PM
its just a change of venueit will still be the same information
1/26/2006 12:12:06 AM
but now instead of it spilling over into everything, its more of a forbidden fruit.
1/26/2006 12:26:33 AM
It is kind of an odd thing to do...But most of SB's beliefs are self-evidently insane, even if entertaining. If there were some possible way to reason with him, this would be a bad idea, but I think most people would agree that SB is beyond reason. This thread is like why you humor your grandpa with Alzheimer's because you really can't do anything else.
1/26/2006 1:00:26 AM
I simply don't see any real justification for why he was suspended in the first place. I generally have a lot of respect for you, Duke, and while I can applaud you unsuspending him, I don't know why you would want to cheapen an act of restoring justice by imposing a ridiculous and patronizing rule on him such as this. His views are only slightly more extreme than a number of other posters that we all know and love whatever, but people get upset because he occasionally posts a link to prisonplanet.com (even though most of the time, that article is actually from a credible source; for instance, here he links a prisonplanet article that is a direct repost from CNN). Most people cite his "constant hijacking" of other people's threads with conspiracy theories or veiled references to Jews as the reason he should stay suspended, but it requires a conscious effort of will to respond to his posts. If you don't want him to hijack a thread, you can simply ignore his post; everyone is so concerned about "winning the Soap Box" that they forget that not responding to someone doesn't mean the other person wins by default. If you all have a common understanding that his posts are wacky and can be dismissed out of hand, then do just that. The only way to really hijack or kill a thread is to make creative use of html or pic-bomb or start a trend of posting about cheese instead; simply posting a response containing text, and occasionally hypertext, just won't do it. If that's all he's doing, it takes two to tango. Just don't accept his offer to dance, everyone--we won't think you're less of an intellectual giant if you don't.The only other reasonable excuse I can think of as to why he should be suspended would fall under something like maintaining the cleanliness of the board. Sure, he's made a lot of threads; many others have too. But everyone is up in arms because he bumps old shit with new links. If that's everyone's problem, then fine, I can understand that. But that doesn't mean only giving him one thread to post in is the answer (I tried really hard to avoid using the words "final solution" there). The answer, if you insist on making rules limiting his participation in the forum, is to say he's not allowed to bttt his own threads; if you see a double post with more than a few hours' difference in the timestamps, THEN do as you wish with him.But don't simply cage him up in a single thread because you don't like his views. Ask a bit more of ourselves to grow up and just not take the bait, and we can all be happier in the end. Because admit it or not, occasionally he does post replies that are worth responding to. If everyone practices a little restraint and just ignores the silly posts rather than launching into another "omg tinfoil hat!!1" flame war, then I think everyone would be better off than the situation is now.

I already like two things about this thread:1. Excoriator double posted in a little over 2 minutes in very salisburyboy fashion2. Shadowrunner's "everyone is so concerned about "winning the Soap Box" that they forget that not responding to someone doesn't mean the other person wins by default," while it's been said before, belongs at the beginning of every Soap Box thread[Edited on January 26, 2006 at 3:36 AM. Reason : there'll be a third if ol'salisburyboy doesn't post by page 2]

salisburyboy would likely just respond [by pasting a prisonplanet article] about how alito is just another pawn in the jewish and/or illuminati conspiracy
1/26/2006 1:47:13 PM
Does he know he is unsuspended? As things go, I suspect he'll be a no-show.
1/26/2006 2:35:54 PM
good point
1/26/2006 4:55:06 PM
well his legacy seems to be alive even without him around.
1/26/2006 5:00:38 PM
Can he go back and edit asterisks around the thread title? That would only be fair.
1/26/2006 5:45:58 PM
^^^^I sent him a PM, for whatever that's worth. Obviously if he doesn't know he's unsuspended, he won't log in and check his PMs.
1/26/2006 6:25:58 PM
he probably doesn't check his messages for fear of teh j00 chip in his brain seeing who his contacts are

as far as free speech goes, this place is pretty lenientfurthermore, a more apt comparison would be between salisburyboy and a disorderly congressman who constantly interrupts debate. Such a member would be quickly voted into silence and ruled out of order - and that in the very hallowed halls of democracy and where our ideals of free speech were formed.and p.s.
1/27/2006 9:28:30 AM
wait, how is that an apt comparison?if you're sitting in congress, you have to listen to a congressmen who interupts, which wastes the time of people who are supposed to be (althougn aren't necessarily) involved in the business of running our government...if you don't want to read salisburyboy's posts, then you don't have to, most mouses have scroll wheels, and if you can't use that then you just push the "down" arrow on the keyboard...seems like the idea of "just ignore him" doesn't really occur to the people here anymore...so now if people find someone irritating they're going to get exiled to their own little corner...and obviously not every poster, i didn't really have a problem with him, he was irritating, but at least he was entertaining...
1/27/2006 9:41:11 AM
well damn, we should just not have a mod. Afterall, everyone can just scroll by the shit they dont want to look at/read
1/27/2006 9:55:54 AM
why not just make this democratic? create a poll on the front page and ask everyone what should be done with him.tyranny of the majority!
1/27/2006 10:10:08 AM
timswar, on the floor of congress you can also not just click paste and flood the floor with speech.
1/27/2006 11:21:38 AM
i dunno, I think I've seen santorum do the equivalent
1/27/2006 12:21:34 PM
now everybody's gonna want their very own thread
